Films
It's just coming round to four years since Mrs Puddle and I gave up on television. We stopped paying the licence fee, and we stick to the law. At first, we used to watch catch-up of the other channels (other than BBC), but even stopped that over two years ago...basically because we think all television is pure crap, and I refuse to fund the corrupted BBC.

Anyway, we do like films. Some time back, we exhausted every DVD we had, and bought a FireStick with Kodi on it. This gives us access to lots of films...but we're running out of them. So, do you have any suggestions for 'good' films? Obviously we've seen all the well-known films, but I mean little-known good films like 500 Days Of Summer, We're The Millers - stuff like that. We like a range of topics, but mostly thrillers. Mrs Puddle likes feel-good films. Have you seen a film where you thought, 'That was pretty good'?

We've watched Breaking Bad twice over, and all the Frasier episodes three times over. Just to give my own very brief suggestions:
Fargo - watch the 1996 one first, then watch the series with Billy Bob Thornton. Marvellous! Don't bother watching the second series.
Three Days Of The Condor - absolute classic, and incredibly still so relevant.
No Country For Old Men - was glued to the screen wondering what would happen next!
High Anxiety - Mel Brooks being brilliant
A Simple Plan (1998) - could happen to any of us, how would we deal with it?
Love Actually - Mrs Puddle's favourite, and not a bad film at all.
Anything with Jim Carrey in it.
The Usual Suspects - if you haven't seen it, where have you been?!?

I guess what we're after is little-known films that left you impressed. Obviously we've seen all the well-known films - and MANY of them left us very much unimpressed! We don't like horror, too much of it in real life. My personal favourite are heist films, and Mrs Puddle's dislike is violent films. Now left.

If you to like Breaking Bad I am sure you will appreciate Better Call Saul.
I recently also watched Mindhunter and have a good impression. Usually for me TV is not for me.

Yes, seen Saul. Thought they strung out the second series too much. Have you seen Tell No One (French: Ne le dis à personne)? Good! Now left.

I went a year without a tv!

I could live without one, we bought an Amazon stick and never used it, don't have Netflix or anything like that. Never seen breaking bad.
We watch Strictly Come Dancing (Mrs G) and I watch Street Outlaws on Discovery.
I do watch a lot on YouTube, usually in the bath!

It's worth watching all of Expedition Overland's adventures on yt.
Though I just mainly watch all of

Roadkill
House of Muscle (cars)
Daily Transmission (hoonigan garage)
I pick and choose on Jay Lenos garage.

Film wise, we did watch Ex Machina last night, thought provoking!
We have all the Harry Potter movies recorded and that's all!

Well, I have to say that Breaking Bad is far and away the best thing I've ever seen on TV. There are one or two episodes where nothing much happens, but the way it is constructed is superb. But (as usual) what makes it so good are the characters - everyone acts their socks off. This is what made Cheers so good - everyone (even the minor characters for a single episode) played their part so well. Breaking Bad ends perfectly, too. Now left.

Ah, so "V8 Scumbag" is a DT reference! Daily Trans is great, although I tend to skip the ABWs. The TJ Russell Plymouth is one of my favourite cars they've shown. That and Old Smokey.

As for films, mostly I like Sci-Fi or meandering films with no real plot, but I think these are good:
Another Earth,
Remember Me,
The Go Getter,
Gattaca,
Swedish Auto

Some of those are big budget so you may have already seen them. Also I think Moonrise Kingdom is great, but like most Wes Anderson stuff you'll either love it or hate it. If you do like it, then Grand Budapest Hotel is just as good.

If you like breaking bad you’ll like Ozarks, fantastic series, leaves you desperately wanting a second series!
My favourite films are
Seven ( not the nicest of films but lovely and dark, Brad Pitt is fantastic)
Withnail and I ( odd name, fantastic film)
Planes trains and automobiles, great family Christmas film, apart from Steve martins outburst to the checkin girl!)
The Mexican (Barb Pitt/Julia Roberts/ James Gandolfini RIP all fantastic..)
I have to watch a Bourne film with our Matt if it’s on..

I am very much a film buff........but i avoid the terms good and bad when i talk to folk about my opinion of films or tv as ...i usually say ifi enjoyed/liked the film or not and the reason why ..its a subtle difference but i dont like putting folk off watching stuff just because i labelled it as bad .....so on that basis i enjoyed all those films you listed except the quiet man..and i liked the second sries of Fargo ..have you seen "The Town" or the tv series the wire or the original "The bridge" ?I have only lenjoyed two films that john wayne has been in the searchers and true grit! Without too many worms getting loose "why is the BBC corrupt"?THey have produced some of the most wonderfull tv ever made!

Not a film fan at all. Last film I saw was Paddington. Sat through too many adverts and too noisy. Never again. We have freeview but no satellite tv, netflix or DVR. Too busy in the garage bolting bits back on the Defender and the Morgan. Much prefer the small screen ie smartphone, tablet and laptop. Defender 90XS SW
Mini Countryman Cooper S
Morgan Plus 8

Some good recommendations above. Thanks.

Terio: I haven't seen any of them!
Alwoodley72: Will check out Ozarks. Loved all the Bourne films - right up my street.
nitram 17: The entire BBC is corrupt. Let's leave aside the fact that everyone within the BBC knew about Jimmy Saville, but said nothing. And the corporation has got clean away with it. It's a Leftist organisation that really does lie to the public - I've caught them out myself. Their presenters have Left-leaning, anti-Brexit, anti-British agenda. Have you ever seen Tim Sebastion's terrible interview with Daniel Hannan? And no, I'm not a Conservative Their obsession with sport and climate change is both ill-informed, retarded, and absurdly unintelligent. Even Children In Need is a disgrace (yes, I have links if you want them). I could go on! Like you said, can of worms.

Lots of recommendations to check out. I do have a 15-minute rule - since I have wasted a good part of my life letting films go to the end, only to shake my head in disbelief that it ever got production money, like Carpool - you just have to see it to feel incredibly intelligent about yourself! If the film hasn't grabbed me by 15 minutes then that's it. Harsh, I know. Now left.
