http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/new...k-13932918 But what I immediately thought was, if she had run them over, by reversing then going forward, she would have got done for it. Chiefly because she would be an easy arrest for the police. I'm on a bit of a trigger with the police at the moment, after that guy in the news last week has spent 11 months waiting for his trial after punching a low-life scum for trying to steal his car in the middle of the night - only for the jury to find him not guilty after less than half an hour's deliberation (and he lost his job). There are times when the police and the CPS just make me seethe. And yet when presented with CCTV of some low-life scum's face, they say there isn't enough evidence to get a conviction! Or the CPS say they wouldn't be confident of getting a conviction. No, but some ordinary person going about their life is an easy arrest. We could, any of us, at any time, find ourselves up on trial for just trying to protect ourselves. Sometimes, I find it all too much. Now left. |

Agree, surprised nobody stepped in to help. If I were in the camera car I’d have run the over! They had axes so would have been a big risk to confront them so I’d use my car against them.

I have a very simple attitude. If someone gets hurt whilst knowingly committing a crime I say tough luck!
If someone is committing a violent crime and the victim uses force to protect themselves more then tough luck. If someone steps in to protect/assist a victim of a violent crime then hard luck on the perpetrator. One condition is that force used should be reasonably proportional. If someone gets a slapped face opening fire with an automatic firearm is slightly overkill. Brendan |

I agree that it can sometimes seem as if the Police have got it wrong or just don't care. In the case you quote if the Officer(s) had not arrested this gent for assault which must have been after a complaint from "low life scum" then they would be faced with charges of neglect of duty which could result in a fine ( taken direct from there wages), dismissal from the Police service or if above the rank of PC demotion. You can only use reasonable force to detain or stop someone from committing a crime , if the gent has struck the first blow then that is not reasonable force, if he reacted to being thumped then that is reasonable . It is the C.P.S. solicitors who decide who is charged and who is not it is not left up to the Police officer any longer, The officer provided CPS with the facts and the C.P.S. direct what action the officer should take, this often leads to frustration. "Low life scum " and their legal representative often use delaying tactic's to prevent their case being dealt with in the hope they can get off lightly for their offence. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Thanks for that, though from what I remember, the police decide to collect the evidence and present the case to the CPS, don't they? We've all heard cases where the police haven't bothered even when the "low life scum" is caught on CCTV or even when there have been witnesses. And I have personal experience of them not bothering to even turn up for a burglary to take any evidence - even when there is perfect fingerprint evidence. Yet you defend yourself and see what happens. Again, I have personal experience. My nephew was caught up in a street fight with some Polish lads. He was defending himself, but because he ended up getting the upper hand, guess who they arrested? I appreciate your reply, I really do, but in my 58 years I've heard too much. I actually really value our police, but when a lady has her caravan stolen by some "low life scum" who take it to herd it with the rest of their caravans, and the police tell her they won't get it back for her because it's too risky for them (and she ends up having to get it herself) then that value becomes worn.

I thought that the Police had a statutory duty to investigate crime and couldn't legally simply decide not to bother, but I am probably wrong.
Anyone here know if this is the case, and if an MOP can take any action to force an investigation? Incidentally and on a completely different subject, I don't think that Dorset Police has done itself any favours by arresting three generations of the same family very publicly on suspicion of murder, when it turns out that (in their own words) there is nothing to suggest the involvement of any other person in the untimely and tragic death of Gaia Pope. It is hard to understand quite why this investigation has been conducted in this way. |

That is horrendous! I'm shocked they waited for the green light, red light or not I'd have been off! If I had unintentionally run them over then so be it! Total scum! James

If in the case as above the "low life scum" has made a complaint of assault against the vehicle owner then the Police have a duty to collect the evidence , a statement of complaint is the normal practice . The other cases you have brought to the table.................I'm afraid that I not going to pick over each and every one or debate the rights or wrongs I prefer to maintain my liberty, what I will say is the last time I was on a travellers site it took a large number of Police Officers to extract me and one damaged vehicle. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |
