Yeah, I thought that too, but as there are coil spring mounts visible above both wheels, I think it must be some sort of trailing arm to locate the axle. Somebody has clearly gone to a fair amount of trouble to graft it all together but it does look, well, odd. The mismatched rear windows draw your eye to all of the awkward bits. There were actually 2 of those, one blue and one green, both built by the same bloke as 9 seaters IIRC? The blue one sold on ebay a couple of years ago for about 6K but it looked a bit more loved than it does now. I first saw it shortly after it had been built and the build quality was very good, it now looks like the cracks are starting to show.
