My Land Rover drove fine for ages then all of a sudden it became very difficult to make smooth gear changes. After several days of thinking it was my driving I thought to myself that it all started after I used low range for the first time 12months or so I go. What happened was that when I went back to high range the low/high ratio lever was not all the way back into position, despite the fact it still drove in high. This has happened a few times for me now but at least I know how to cure it now. My PUMA has done 30k miles now and the transmission is as it was when it was new, apart from when I forget about this! As I said earlier, you only know when the lever is all the way back when you apply a slight amount of pressure pulling the lever back into the high range position while in 1st and letting the clutch off slowly, you can then feel it going all the way properley as the gears mesh together. This cannot be felt by just yanking the lever back as far as you can assuming it's all the way in. Is anyone aware of this ever happening on the TD5, it never used to happen on my 300 Defender before this one. Good Luck, I'me sure it's not a cure for everyone but it's worth trying |
