Minimum load rating for alloys
Any idea what the minimum load rating is for alloys fitted to a non expedition type defender?

I'm guessing a 90 weighs about 1800-1900kg wet and in an extreme situation it might have to carry 2500 kg if it had a pallet of bricks in the back or something like that.

So is it as simple as I need to make sure that the load rating is 625kg or higher or do you have to factor in the fact that one or two wheels might take allot more weight depending on terrain...etc? 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

I'm guessing that you mean the minimum, i.e. weakest, that you can get away with? The weakest alloy that Land Rover have ever offered is the Tornado (Freestyle), which is stamped 850kg. They were common on the Discovery 1 but only ever offered on the 90 Defender as they weren't strong enough for the GVW of a 110.

If looking at aftermarket wheels then I'd want a rating of at least 850kg for use on a 90. It's kind of academic what the actual weight of the vehicle is as from a legal/insurer perspective it's GVW that's the deciding factor. Darren

Yeah that was my thinking as well Anorak, I was offered some nice alloys with insta special track tyres but then I noticed 865kg stamped on them which gave me second thoughts. 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

10.4kg each
