Assuming that a new warranty starts with the supply of the new wheel, then you should be on a wheels for life scheme.

Odd. First time I read about such problems with genuine SVX style dual tone wheels here. I have the same on my SVX, the first for 7 years, genuine replacements after theft now for 2.5 years. I do not have any road or off-road induced damage on them, but I regularly subject them to high pressure Kärcher cleaning, but both sets remain as new.
Since all 5 of yours have this damage, there must be some reason. ??? Eric P.S. I believe the warranty on all genuine LR parts bought or put later is limited to 1 year only. Hi Eric,
The first wheel that was replaced under warranty is as-new - and I've given them a really good inspection now. The remaining four of the original wheels all displayed the same white marks under the lacquer - like a spiders web - and all starting from an edge. There's not a thing you can do to stop the spread - eventually it looks terrible. So I think the originals were from the same batch and so all exhibited the same fault. At first I thought it was a stone chip or similar but when the spare started showing the white marks I suspected something was amiss and it wasn't due to damage. The first faulty replacement looks like the lathe used to face the front didn't quite cut deep enough before it was lacquered, so there is a white streak that is very visible. I didn't spot it at first because the white tyre sealant looks exactly the same and it was only when I came to wipe it off I noticed. The second faulty replacement looks like it's been rolled along the ground - it looks like it's been kerbed except the damage is on the wrong place - it's on the edge of the wheel and protected by the tyre and not on the face where you would expect. I have seen similar damage to a wheel and it was caused by the tyre-fitting machine... I'm very careful with the paint work on Gracie. I don't use special wheel cleaner, or even a high pressure jetwash - just Autoglym shampoo applied with with a microfibre mitt. Every six months or so I apply a layer of Autoglym paint sealant to all the bodywork including the wheels and that's it. I've found brake dust doesn't seem to like sticking to these dual-finish wheels and they are very easy to keep clean. Hopefully the dealer will agree to replace the wheel and I'll have a complete set of decent wheels. I just need to paint-seal them before the winter sets in and the UK roads get covered in tons of salt and grit... PS the dealer has been great so far. They offered to replace the wheels immediately - no quibble - and also the remote fob that was showing signs of the rubber cover coming off. Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |

Well Dave, Good luck with the dealer. I guess that if all four wheels are showing signs of degradation you are entitled to another four new ones. Please let us know how you get on.

Yes, sounds like the wheels on your truck are from a bad batch. Hope dealer gets JLR to replace them all.

Diamond cut alloys are always tricky to keep nice,
I've used this on mine for a couple of years now... https://usa.gtechniq.com/products/auto/per...eel-armour I've picked up a few chips along the way, but overall they still look like new. Once the dreaded white oxidisation sets in, I will get them blasted and painted all over. Try to avoid acid based cleaners on them too, this helps immensely. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

I use Autoglym Extra Gloss protection on all the paintwork, including the wheels and it's lovely stuff; water just beads off. Brake dust just washes off as well. I'm sure the C5 is very similar.
When the wheels are out of warranty and start corroding again I might just get them powder-coated all over - I certainly wouldn't bother with the diamond-cut finish again. Apart from looking nice in the showroom I've got no idea why it's so popular - unfortunately Gracie was a stock vehicle so we had no choice at the time. My boosts, on the 2016 110, had started to peel on 3 out of 5. Usual high quality items. 1951 80" S1 2.0

You did well to get any of them replaced- my supplying dealer refused to address my slightly rusty wolf wheels that had rust spots from new ! 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2

Just my opinion but I think that dual finish wheels are a waste of time on any motor

Well they had a look at the wheels today and agreed to replace the two damaged ones. They also spotted the front diff pinion seal leaking and also responded to my gentle questioning about transmission backlash by immediately offering to replace the intermediate shaft under warranty
They also replaced the key fob that was peeling. So far, the signs are good for this main dealer... PS I checked with them about warranty on replaced parts. The warranty only extends as far as the warranty on the original vehicle, so if you had a faulty part replaced a week before the warranty expires, then it's only in warranty for a week. This is apparently enshrined in UK law; you bought a vehicle not a collection of parts so the warranty extends to the vehicle only. Weirdly this also extends to post-warranty 'good will gestures' as well - no inferred warranty etc. There is a slight workaround depending on the circumstances. So for example if you managed to blow the engine up due to a known fault after the warranty had expired and the manufacturer decided to replace it as a 'gesture of good will', then no warranty is legally required by the manufacturer. However if you contribute even as little as one penny then you have entered into a contract and normal purchasing rules apply as a minimum. So in the example above if you were to contribute, say, the cost of the oil as part of the engine replacement then under UK law the entire engine replacement would be covered. Yes, I spent a LOT of time at the dealers this evening... Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |
