What is the relevant fuse in this particular case? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

I wouldn't usually go pulling and checking fuses for the aircon, wipers, stereo etc. for a indicator fault - but hey, it's a Defender...
You did read that I already checked the fuses yeah? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Sorry, maybe I'm tired and reading more than is or isn't intended, but I'm getting a certain vibe that I expect to get from electrical engineering and electronics forums from you... Quite distinct from the usual def2.
Anyhoo, it stands to reason that I checked the indicator fuses after the headlamps right? (unless there are others I don't know about?) And yes, I didn't mention it, but I also gave a light rub with a jewellers file and contact cleaner on all the connections that I'd touched incl. fuses. A DMM was involved from time to time as well, but I excluded that info in trying to keep things simple. Tomorrow I'll pull the indicator fuses and try the hazard lights again, if they don't work then that's likely to rule out fuses. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

From memory ,check fuses 21 and 31. Don't make old people mad.

You may well find that it is the lever. I think I’ve put at least one of the things on each of the Defenders I’ve had.
If you unscrew the cowling there is a block connector there that can be easily pulled apart and then checked with a test meter Like you say though, seems strange that it’s happened after fiiddling with the indicators |

Fuse 21 is the ignition feed to the indicator stalk. When you say you checked continuity at the indicator plugs, what did you do exactly? Are you checking the indicators with the ignition on? Sure you are but sometimes the simple things are missed 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

My point was that fuses can cease to work even though they are not blown. I had a few gremlins that were fuse blades being furred up with a white powdery coating and when replaced my interior lights and seat belt warning lights started again (L200).

I think i would be inclined to take the cowling off the steering column and check for a feed either side of the ignition switch with the DMM. It's only a couple of screw to pop the cowling off. (don't bother with the large protruding screw on the underside it's jsut a locating peg)

Fuse 21 had crapped itself. On the index it simply had a hazard sign next to it, and considering that the hazards were working I think it would have taken me quite a high level of frustration/non-progress to consider checking it, so thanks for saving all that time pulling the column apart (I've done it enough to be fast, but it's still an awkward process) Also, I doubt there is a single thread for an electrical/electronic issue on a puma that isn't soon followed up by the relevant and helpful page in the electrical manual by DorsetSmith. Martin, yeah that's the vibe I refer to, I've found it is the de-facto personality in electrical/electronic forums and Q&A sites (stack-exchange electrical and electronic, Arduino, AVRFreaks etc. for example). I wouldn't have thought it would eventuate in a ban, but I don't know what I don't know. Anyhoo, sorry to talk about you like you're not in the room lightningtweeds, as you've no doubt noted, your advice was correct, is was a blown fuse that I hadn't checked, and yes I noted a bit of that powdery corrosion on some of the good ones.
