Pyrenees/Picos de Europa
Anyone got any tips or routes.

I remember going to the Picos de Europa when I was at Uni, and was pretty impressed by the place. I saw a few Defenders knocking about of some pretty high mountain tracks.

Anyone got any experience on here.

Have a look HERE for a few photos.

Best advice is local advice. Spanish Land Rover forum can be found HERE

They do not have an International/English section although some of their members speak English. If you don't speak Spanish, Barbara is fluent in Spanish (except in technical terms) and will help out if need be.

Picos is a fantastic area and lots of great tracks. One popular place is Fuente De where you can get the cable car up the mountain. At the top you can walk a couple of miles down to a mountain restaurant for lunch then get the Land Rover 'taxi back up to the top ehich is great fun - they drive like maniacs! (you can actually get the Land Rover taxi both ways. You can also drive up to the top by a track which leaves from Espinama. Look it up on Google Earth zoom in and follow the track - it's not shown on the map part but you can see it clearly on the satellite image.

I have quite a good book called In the Picos de Europa which shows walking, horseback, bike car and 4WD routes . It's by Vicente Ena Alvarez and the ISBN is 84-8012-117-3

Post some pictures if you go!

Wow!! That photos are all taken in Asturias. The last photos are in Proaza/Asturias, a little town where my parents have a house. There are very handsome routes... That´s a spectacular place to go, to see the hardest nature, and if you´re lucky... You can see the Bear!!!.

Can you post some of these in hi-res - they would make some great wallpaper on the PC for the dull days at the office, Especially the one from Bardenas Reales, Navarra, Spain.

We went to the Picos last year as a family, camped along the coast as well as up in the mountains. It's a fantastic place, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
