Have got one of these fitted to my VW Camper, does anyone know what the servicing protocol is?
I have been told by a local dealer that they need a full strip down service each year at a cost of around £350!! Having been on Def 2 a while i am quite aware of the recommendation and charging disparities that are around, so I thought that one of you people might know from experience. Mine gets around 25/35 hours per year usage, hence my unwillingness for that to relate to £10 per hour usage/servicing. Do not want to gas the family in their sleep, but is this a case of working well so best left alone?? I had my D2 serviced in taunton at fitting and then ran it for 4 yrs wth no problem - my intital service was only £100 .. so maybe look around at an independent ... £350 seems a bit steep! Thanks Wyvern
That is what I was thinking, a bit strong. As a matter of interest how many about hours did yours run over the 4 years between servicing? Regards 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue 1967 Morris Traveller 1966 Morris Convertible 2012 VW T5 Camper Quod Abundat Non Obstat. |

We had several overseas trips and ran it overnight every night for a week n several occasions. as well as for an hour or two a few times times every month during my regular commute from cornwall to london or where ever .. so a moderate amount.
The secret from what I understand is to run them regularly and ensure that the heater goes though its warm up and then warm down cycle correctly. It may be worth checking that there are no faults on heaters’ ECU that may point to underlying problems that have not become apparent yet if you have a diagnostic control panel... These are used in lots of busses, lorries, campers and boats so a lot of information about as well as quite a few engineers who can look after them.
