Not cheap but I have one for my boat and one for the Defender and never had a problem, worth the investment I feel. Do a search on here for members thoughts on them. 2015 HT XS 90

i have used airflow for the last 20 years or so http://www.airflow-uk.co.uk/Battery-Conditioner.html 6,12 and 24v oneshttp://www.airflow-uk.co.uk/3-Step-Battery-Charger.html

tried Optimate (?) they dont last the test of time in my experience.

C Tek have good reputation to, never tried them though. Cheers

+1 ctek

but also look out for Lidl and Aldi sales - theirs are far cheaper, and certainly used to have the same inners as some ctek's. In general they are less flexible, and slightly worse at detecting completely flat batteries (mistaking them for 6v ones) but I manage a few vehicles with one ctek and 3 aldi/lidl ones.

I use a Ctek at which is permanently plugged into the Defender whilst I'm away and it works perfectly. It lives outside all year round and no problems yet. Used a couple of the Lidl versions also and they have done everything from a motorbike to a CAT backhoe without any problems.

The Noco Genius range are meant to be very good also. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Ditto that. I have a dead one on the shelf. It was useful in that it did both 12V & 24V (the 101 is 24V) but the main transformer died and that isn't a standard spec component.

For years since that died I've been using a Farnell TOPS3D laboratory bench power supply for battery charging. It has resurrected many batteries that "smart" chargers have refused to consider and is also useful for other diagnostic work. If I want more current I've got a huge Hewlett Packard 19" rackmount PSU Very Happy

CTEK MXS5.0 is a good balance between cost and performance

The Lidl ones are excellent. They're basically the same as the Ctek's.

I've got a Ring Smart charger, I don't know how important the 6v side of it is, but if it's just a nice to have then these are excellent. Also does battery and alternator testing as well as the full compliment of charge cycles with a nice unambiguous interface.

One difference with the Lidl/Aldi chargers and the CTEK is that if you are using them for long-term trickle charge (over-winter for example), then they do not start charging again after a power cut. CTEKs do.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Did not know that, as I am in an area prone to power cuts , I am pleased to have the Cteks.
