As you say, anything is possible. The biggest difference is that the motor is mounted differently and so would need new mounting points into the bulkhead. Beyond that, the dash is different to accommodate the motor. Darren

You'd need to convert to the later 2002-on dash, or modify your dash to house the motor. Plus fabricate a mounting bracket on the bulkhead, enlarge the spindle holes and modify the upper dash brackets to clear the rack tube.

It's not much of an upgrade to be honest. A slight improvement in that the rack doesn't have to go round a bend but the system is still pretty s**t compared to most other cars so it wouldn't be worth it I don't think. Just replacing your worn stuff with new will have it working fine and as well as it can.

If you're buying a complete 2002-on bulkhead complete with dash et. al. then by all means, but converting a pre-2002 Defender to the new system is not worth it.

I dont think you will be able to use the wiper wheelboxes from the TD5 as the holes through the bulkhead are not the same shape/size either.

The older wheelboxes should fit though 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread

It's basically just replacing a 1950's wiper system with an early 1970's one. The later Defender wiper set up is pretty much straight out of the Mini.

my wiper system no matter what type i use needs to be changed to much slop on the wipers.

basically what i am trying to have is the new wipers bolted to the spindles so the only way i see to do this is to use TD5 wiper boxes, but again maybe to much hassle.

just had a look today at a TD5 project my mates building and i am now thinking it will be a lot of work for very little gain, yes it would be different if i was changing the bulkhead, so as per advice from Retroanaconda, i think i have answered my question

so my last question is would TD5 wiper boxes which have steel gears and i can bolt on the wipers FIT with an earlier system with all new genuine landrover parts?? if it doesn't then i will just have to stick to what i have and replace with geniune parts...........................many thanks Thumbs Up Thumbs Up 2016 Discovery 4
