Took me 34 years of driving to do it. I blame it on the pumps. It was a shell, with those new-fangled digital pump handles. And, I'm the person who always checks some joker hasn't swapped the handles around in their holsters too.

I wouldn't like to run it above 30%?
I think you might be in pump damage territory?

Same, I double and triple check. I almost always follow the line back to the source to make sure its coming from the right one! Luckily me local garage has the fuel type written on the pump handle and petrol/diesel pumps are segregated.

Didnt know throwing some unleaded in the tank was good for emissions! I knew people did it in winter but thats about it

You could always Siphon some (or all) of it out... Question

Thought I'd check... just may be LR have fitted an anti-siphon (gadget / ball) to the Filler Hose, I was fairly sure they hadn't (Security... Laughing ) and sure enough (on a 2.4 Puma) you can get right down into the Tank with a standard length of garden hose.

Now the reality of doing this under the 'typical circumstances' of putting in the wrong fuel, are not as straight forward as it first appears, I'm sure you can't siphon on a garage forecourt, and even if you did the 'push of shame' around the corner, you are then faced with the what do I siphon 40-50 + Lts in to... more on a 110, assuming you have really 'phased out' while filling up.

Dilute down as has been said, but this will not change the % mix in the fuel lines, until the new mix runs through, if it were me I'd be tempted to siphon out as much as possible, as soon as possible, (round the corner) then maximising the Diesel to Unleaded ratio, doing the sums in my head as I went...

Also top up with the higher quality Diesel as this is claimed to have improved Lubrication Qualities.

Some Breakdown Services cover this 'mishap'... Mr. Green (with Green Flag its standard on all Levels of Cover except Rescue only)

150,000 Cases a year apparently, so you are not alone...

Thanks. I added 70 litres of posh diesel ontop of it, so syphoning that lot out isn't something i'd look forward to. Seems to be running ok sp far. Have added a 2 stroke oil too just to keep the pump lubed up nicely.

on the plus side, even with the posh diesel in, it's running really smoothly. Like having a good splash of miller diesel power in there.

Thumbs Up So you've found your new 'Power Mix' then.

What's the 'take away' from this...(if as you did) start with < 10Lts of Unleaded, into a Tank that presumably
needed filling, would you do the same again... 'drown it' in Diesel, or would you be tempted to get it out... Question

AFAIK Phil baylis still runs about 5% unleaded in his well tuned 90 TD5. So it is a known thing to make more power but not enough to make me want to try it though Shocked

Older inline type injection pumps are no problem, rotary pumps will sieze bearings and electronic are a gamble. I ran Mercedes trucks when they used Bosch inline injection pumps and the handbook mentioned a 50% of unleaded in severe weather but did add in some countries including UK was an offence under C&E regulations.

Kerosine was another alternative to prevent waxing, Adding Kerosene (parafin) is an offence, because there's no duty paid on it.

Petrol isn't a problem legally as you've already paid the duty on it.

On a reverse note I put about half a litre of diesel into my old Saab 95-5 T and not a bit of smoke a few years back. Did fill it after every 50 miles thereafter.
