On the plus side it looks like you'll be getting a brand new engine free of charge.

Hope the best for you, but what kind of extended warranty is that for a 2008 Defender? 2008 makes it 9 years young, longest warranty extension we can buy here from JLR is upto 6 years, and then from 3rd party insurance eventually 1 extra year upto 7 years, but then all warranty posses are all finished.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

In the UK you can keep extending the JLR warranty for up to 10 years/100'000miles.

Good luck
Extended warranty has been Betty good to me and the service from them (I believe it's a company called my car plan/Land Rover) However I broke down over eight weeks ago and am still driving a discovery sport. I hope you trust the dealership you have taken it to. I didn't trust the one my car is in due to previous experience but due to the location of my breakdown had no choice. I should have dug my heels in and had it recovered elsewhere. I have been promised wed to get mine back (60 days exactly ) but will believe it when I see it |

Well, I have been without my landy for almost a month due to the engine being completely blown. I was told by the dealers that they found swarf deposits in the engine but it was not clear on why or where it had come from. Now it was up to Land Rover Warranty on how to proceed.
After many phone calls with the dealers and Land rover warranty, they finely authorised a new replacement engine and courtesy car for 7 days at no cost to me. Happy days. The dealers stated that now they have authorisation, the engine had been ordered and it would arrive Wednesday 25th October and be ready for collection on the Friday. So, Friday came and I phoned to ask what time could I collect my pride and joy to be told "no its not ready your engine is on back order and we have no idea when it will arrive. Could be days or months" To top it off, the hire car company the dealers use, contacted us to ask why we hadn't returned the car to the garage as the time had expired. After some very heated phone calls with the dealership manger and a very helpful lady at Land Rover warranty, a brand new discovery was delivered to our house for the duration of the fix. Next update I got was via a text message stating that the engine arrived on the 2nd November and I could collect the landy on Monday 6th. On the Monday morning (all excited) I received yet another TEXT saying that they had just started the engine and noticed an oil leak and they needed to order some gasket. I have to say it has been a very frustrating time made more so by the dealers, but I am happy to say my Landy is now home and is driving perfectly. Thank you Land Rover Warranty On a side note - I am not sure I like the new Discovery - the defender makes me smile and wins hands down IMHO. Defender 110 TDCi XS SW Range Rover Sport HSE |

I wonder what the score is with Puma engines now. Ford have started replacing them in their new vehicles with the new Panther engine. I wonder if Dagenham are still building Pumas? If they are then I expect Land Rover wait until they have a minimum order quantity to order a batch from Ford.
