Exhaust snapped after rear silencer - questions/options
So the exhaust tail pipe has snapped and I'm now trying to figure out what my options are. It's got an MOT in a month so something needs to be done.

It's directly after the rear silencer and the remaining metal is very weak/flaky meaning welding would be difficult but probably possible if I put an outer sleeve on. The other alternative is to replace the rear section. At which point I see the stainless steel version and want to know are they worth the £500 investment for full stainless steel? Other ordinary steel rear sections on Paddocks etc look different to the one I have on now.

Can anyone point me towards the correct rear section for a 300tdi (its a disco 300 conversion) and whether or not an ss exhaust is worth the considerable extra cost? Also how long can I expect an normal steel exhaust section to last (very broad question I know but trying to work out how long it would be before the stainless steel version has paid for itself in replacement steel versions)? Matt.

I had a stainless exhaust fitted to my 300tdi at 120,000 miles. I sold it at just under 400,000 miles over 10 years later with no sign of exhaust problems. At the time is seemed a reasonable price and was manufactured by Double S Exhausts.

I think if that your landy is a keeper, then the only way to go is to fit a SS exhaust and then you can forget about it, that is what i did and not had one problem with it so far Wink ( touch wood ) i to put a Double ' S ' exhaust system on Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

on the other hand if a std replacement costs £25, and lasts 3 years, you'd get 12 years motoring for only £100. 12 years is a looooong time in car ownership.

Thanks. I think that's probably the best way to go for now as mild steel complete exhausts seem quite cheap. However I'm really struggling to find one that looks like the pipe that's currently on.

Which doesn't look like any of the sections I currently have on and I can't work out where the right angle piece coming out of the box goes? Matt.

Just as a follow up to this: Bought a genuine LR rear section from Blanchard's for £75. Britpart was 40 odd quid so I decided the genuine was worth the extra money in the hope it lasts a bit longer than Britpart. Matt.
