Yup based on that photo i went for 285/75/16 on boost alloys. They are a great size for the defender and the td5 engine pulls them well. I however ended up with a set of BFG AT KO2s...

Geobloke it might be interesting if you could add a little about why you changed from STT Pro to KO2? TIA James

Also 285x75R16 on standard suspension (?) do you get any rubbing on articulation? Look pretty close to arches? James

Sure thing. I was on the verge of pressing buy it now with regards to the the STT Pros. I think they are a superb looking tyre and no doubt they are great offroad. The reason for not buying them is solely down to doing more road miles in the next 12 months then offload miles and so an All Terrain is going to be more useful. Having to the KO2s on I can whole heartedly say that they are an incredible upgrade from the standard Conti Cross Contact ATs, astronomically better than the GG TRs and significantly more refined than the BFG MT KM2. I have used the Conti for many years, and consider them to be an excellent all round tyre. The KO2 is much quieter... All the tyres balanced to between 5 and 0. It is likely that my alloys (having covered 180k miles) are no longer as true as they used to be... An added bonus is the snowflake which will be useful as we are planning a trip up to Scotland in the New Year. The B rating for rain is well deserved as they positively scythe through deep standing water at high road speeds. Suspension setup: Old Man Emu +2" springs and shocks all road. Slightly depressed due to the cage and rack. Wheels: Standard Boost alloys + 30mm spacers. Gearing: Standard diffs and Discovery 1.2 transfer box. Have to say after less than a fortnight I am so used to the look of 285/75/16 tyres it makes me wonder why I didn't go for them earlier. Perfect fit for the Defender wheel arches. Great composure on the road. No apparent increase in steering weight. The TD5 engine pulls well with this size of tyre and a Discovery transfer box. So far I am a very happy KO2 owner. Need to get them muddy next... |

Bit off topic but the army fit 285/75/16s to 6 or 7 inch rims on their pinzgauers....

Interesting observation. Just driven from Anglesey to Exeter and the BFG KO2 tyres do not anywhere near as warm as the Continental ATs did sound the same trip...
