Had a good day at Tilford, the weather turned out to be a nice autumn day in the end.
Bloody cold driving there early this morning though, no door tops and the back up! Bek took the 86" and after a mile or so I pulled over to wait for her, I asked her why was she driving so bloody slowly? Turns out she was in low range, I did that last night!..... Poor girl.... I spent a pleasant, if quiet, day on the Surrey 4x4 Response stand. It really wasn't very busy, which is a shame as it's a great venue that's very atmospheric.
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I also spent quite a lot of time drooling over the lovely Series III with the rope around the bumper that Ian shows above Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Not sure why though? I didn't think anything else was going on?? I did mean to come and say hi, but spent most of the day in my chair! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

This was my first visit to the Rural Life Centre, which is perfectly set in the Surrey Woodland, and an ideal backdrop for a Land Rover gathering. The Centre itself is worth a visit, if you remember and loved Jack Hargreaves, and his Out of Town Program this place is for you.

Thanks for the complements SKIP
Glad you had a good day, it's a shame we missed you! I think you have hit the nail on the head with the "out of town" comparison, I think Jack would have been right at home there? My favourite is the bike shop, with the small car garage behind the shop front, You have posted a photo of the little Singer car that's inside. If I could pick that up and place it in my garden I would be very happy! The story behind that building is fantastic. Hello ian serise 1
Your welcome, you clearly have many hrs 'invested' in your S1 (we both really liked it), Maybe we will get a chance to say hello next year I completely agree about S W V Deeks, the 100 years old Cycle Shop, quite a few of us (I imagine) have 'progressed' through Bicycles to Motorbikes arriving at Land Rovers so a 'workshop' that combines these interests...perfect. Deeks looks to be the most recent addition to the Rural Life Centre and appears to continue their approach… 'real not replica', and whilst it needs to ‘weather in’ a bit, as you say a fantastic back story, good that they have, dismantled, moved and rebuilt it... without any fake ‘Disney’ touches. Deeks brought back two vivid memories for me, the bike shop was very similar to standing in the W F Holdsworth Cycle Shop in Fulham, where as a boy you walked out with your parts (ball bearings mostly) in a waxed paper parcels. The Garage Workshop of Deeks, looked a smelt like the Garage (also in Fulman) where I was first shown how to service a car, it too had a wood block floor (warmer to lie on in winter). We also liked the Tweedsmuir Exhibition, showing the Second World War Polish resettlement Camp (Mrs X4’s Father is Polish, and fought in the resistance). The 'take away' from the day, was a commitment to build our own Smudgers ‘Hut’, the time capsule Box Hill holiday chalet, that had been cut in half transported and put back together at the Centre, a ‘contemporary version’ of this as a retreat, would be great. Thanks for the original 'reminder' for this event... SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |
