Probably best to remove sunroof (not that difficult a job) and apply a bead of silicone onto the roof where the sunroof top frame sits then refit, which should then make the sunroof waterproof. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Once you have removed the inner rubber seal you should see all round the inner frame a series of small bolts these need to be removed, the bolts screw into the top frame (outside roof) and clamp the top frame to the inner frame. First remove the glass then undo the bolts and the bottom frame will drop leaving the top frame just resting on top of the roof, slide that out of the way and apply a thin bead of silicone rubber either on the top frame itself or around where the top frame sits, and then while the silicone is still wet reassemble the parts as the bolts re clamp the silicone will spread around the top frame on the top of the roof and form a watertight seal. You might want to remove any silicone that has spread outside the top frame onto the roof.
Have a look here for an exploded view of the parts. http://www.roversnorth.com/Land-Rover-Parts/923 Part 1 is the upper frame that sits on the roof and part 7 are the screw bolts For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

I might be wrong, but isn't there a drainage tube from the sunroof which tends to block. If so is it worth checking this before dismantling the sun roof itself?

Seen drain tubes on some Disco sunroofs but never seen one on Defenders. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Drain tubes are associated with slide/tilt sun roofs, which have a much more complicated frame than the simple glass units fitted to Defenders. Darren
