My advice would be DON'T buy one from Ebay, buy from a shop that will give you back up and help if you get any problems.
I would suggest 4x4cb http://www.4x4cb.com/index.cfm And this is an ideal starter set http://www.4x4cb.com/public/item.cfm?itemID=1775 They have all the help pages aswell http://www.4x4cb.com/public/page.cfm?Page=776 A couple of other points Do not get a guttermount, they never last, and end up damaging vehicle when they fail A CB and aerials are never pre set, they need to be matched to each other and the vehicle. Hope this is some help Andy |

Totally agree with Andy, the best set-up is not standard. I used cb's in the 90s when I drove trucks, used a mag mount for the aerial and mounted the CB, dropper (24v-12v), speaker onto a bit of ply. That way it could be taken out and moved from vehicle to vehicle. The aerial length has to be matched with a swr meter and the best advice is to get the set up from a shop, that way they can set it all up for you. Gwyn Lewis would be a good bet for you Karl as they are Defender friendly ![]() |

For trips when you're within a couple of miles max of each other you only need something really simple and basic. Can't remember what mine is but midland is popular
My aerial is mounted on the offside rear quarter to the right if the door hinge. If you do a search fir cb mount on here there's a pic of it. A good place for you is the cb shop at the Lymm truck stop |

Ok mine is a basic Team radio.
my mount is http://www.4x4cb.com/public/item.cfm?itemID=753 fitting instructions for the mount http://www.land-rover-blog.co.uk/how-to-in...-defender/ dont worry too much about SWR-ing the aerial. if you get a thunderpole is already done and ok, it wont be perfoect but it iwll be more than adequate |

Sorry to disagree
But NO aerial is SWR set. It can not be as it is dependant on the mount, the vehicle, and the CB. I had to adjust mine when I put my roof rack on. Some times you can be lucky but other times it will be so far out it will damage the CB unit. Andy |

the chances of a pre-swr'd aerial damaging the unit are pretty much zero. as i said in my post, if you dont bother to swr it, it wont be perfect but it ll be ok. an aerial which hasnt been pre-swr'd definitely needs it though.

Mine is a Midland 48 Excel
I have the mount as per the last post and use the 'rubber duck' style of arieal for laning and the longer springer version on Salisbury Plain for great distance. From experience if you have the spring above the roof line and go laning then you run the danger of getting it court in the undergrowth and being ripped off mount and all. Great fun to have and does make laning and club driving days more socialable Good luck Mark |
