So eventually bought one.......

After browsing for over a year and contemplating the financial implications with four kids at university eventually thought "oh sod it - life's too short" and stepped up to the mark and bought a 1994 110 with 170000 miles. Most recently was used on a humanitarian aid run to a refugee camp in Athens. Bought from the pastor of a local church so hopefully will come with good karma. It comes with a Hannibal roof tent, fridge, built in stove. Had a few local runs within a 100 mile radius and apart from noticing the mileometer didn't work and the roof leaks like a leaky thing all has gone well. Going to a local garage this week for a health check so fingers crossed. Would hope to tinker with it myself as much as possible so thought best introduce it as there will probably be lists of advice requests coming it the not too distant future !

Enjoy it. It looks great, one thing to consider, if you local garage don't "understand" land rovers, you may get a list as long as your arm of things that need doing, but may not reeeeally need doing, always worth sourcing a Land Rover mechanic who's fluent In the ways and woes of Land Rover ownership. 2006 TD5110 station wagon

It all started when the kids were young and I talked about going to Timbuktu ! I'm a few years off retirement so it might actually be safe by then. Would hope to take it on tour so the camping set up is needed. Have been reading the expedition forum here and getting some ideas. At present will just play with it locally and gradually build up the distance once it proves it's realiabilty (hopefully!). Starting locally - around Ireland then ? mainland Europe. Years ago I lived in Gibralter for a short time and drove over to Morrocco but only stayed in the north so would love to drive tithe South. Lots of dreams.
It has bars on the windows, padlock on the doors and a hidden kill switch. Someone suggested a heavy chain on the steering wheel - low tech but effective apparently.

Best of luck with your new wheels, I remember it was on Donedeal earlier in the summer.

Trevor in Jordanstown might be worth a visit if you need any advice with servicing etc.

Welcome to Def2 Docyo....

If I am not mistaken I think I live very close to you !
Bought my first Defender exactly a year ago and did a 2900 mile road trip through the French and Italian Alps in July. Off road, following amazing trails up to 3000 masl, slept on the roof for 14 nights in a row....... It didn't miss a beat, not a single hicup (

k i flattened the battery but that was my fault not the cars😮)
Anyhow totally addicted now so bought another one last week😃
In the past year I have made some good contacts for service etc and can give you a long long long list of suppliers who will happliy take your money in exchange for landy goodies...
Get a good service and a box of spares and get out there.....
