I'm in the market for an offroad expedition trailer.
I really like the build quality / size of the Australian Patriot trailers http://www.patriotcampers.com.au/patriot-x...r-trailer/ I've started to look at UK suppliers and come up with the following list; http://freedomtrailers.co.uk https://www.safaritrailersuk.co.uk http://www.neneoverland.co.uk/services/travel-trailers/ https://www.trekoverland.com/pages/globema...ng-trailer https://www.ventertrailersuk.com/savuti-off-road-camping-trailer/ I know someone that took a Globemaster around the world and had problems with the axle failing. I'm also interested to know about anyones experiences with the various brands or other suggestions. |

I've recently bought the below trailer second hand. I know the axle is from Peake Dynamics, but don't know who built it yet, when i find out I'll forward on. Tows very well, but needs quite a bit of weight in it to stop bounce. Otherwise really pleased. It seems to have the same tub as the Nene Chaser but completely different chassis.

Thanks for the updates.
James, what is the suspension? is it solid axle or independent? What have you done about type approval? Does it have an IVA? I looked at Pioneer trailers a while ago but really struggled with the nose weight requirements, it seemed to require careful loading, my memory was water & fuel loaded beyond the axle. The Australian Bruder and Crusader trailers are great designs which seem somewhat compromised in the UK with our CE hitch restrictions, are they electric brakes? I am still to be convinced by 'stay inside' trailers as I think you carry empty space where you would really want to be carry all the weight. That said they seem to be really well proven. I think the Patriot design is closest to what I wanted and I will definitely have a look at the Metalian ones, they look very good. |

Hmm... I don't know about approvals?? It has a Knott plate but would this just be for the hitch? How would I tell if it is "approved"?
The suspension is Peake Dynamics rubber torsion independent. ![]() Click image to enlarge James MY2012 110 2.2TDCi XS SW Orkney Grey - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43410.html MY1990 110 200TDi SW beautifully faded Portofino Red - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post743641.html#743641 MY1984 90 V8 Slate Grey - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post744557.html#744557 Instagram @suffolk_rovers |

The photo is the approval for the hitch.
All trailers now need EU type approval http://www.dft.gov.uk/vca/vehicletype/trailers.asp I seem to remember there is a get out for home made trailers or trailers of a certain age. Other than that you will need to send it off for an IVA and get it plated. My fear with trailers is there is always an increased chance of an accident, quite possibly not your own fault but you can bet if your trailer is proven not to be compliant your car insurance will wriggle out of settling. |

If it is a Chaser body, I seem to remember Bradley Doublelock, importing the Adventure Trailer and building a chassis over here from kit form.
Perhaps it is one of theirs? I don't know if this is where Nene originally sourced their stock from. |

Thanks Sticky, looks like I've got some homework to do!
I was told the Chaser chassis was made by Dixon Bate, but couldn't find any trace of that. Also link in below thread saying it's manufactured in USA. All I know is the basic trailer from Nene is chuffing expensive! Have you seen this thread... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic47325.html?highlight=chaser James MY2012 110 2.2TDCi XS SW Orkney Grey - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43410.html MY1990 110 200TDi SW beautifully faded Portofino Red - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post743641.html#743641 MY1984 90 V8 Slate Grey - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post744557.html#744557 Instagram @suffolk_rovers |

Same company.
I think the trailer type approval ended their trailer building days and they sold off the stock they had. Nene will be expensive as they seem to be able to retain high margin with lots of their products (not necessarily a bad thing, they have been in business a lot longer than others in this space). They have gone through the Type Approval for their trailer chassis. It's not that difficult to get a single vehicle IVA organised and I suspect worth doing with a trailer like that. It may have been built as a private project for their own use, which I think gets around type approval or older than the type approval rules which I think was circa 2012. There's a VOSA IVA inspection station in Norwich (remember to put your trailer on a trailer when you take it) |
