James, welcome!
i guess it would of been good to ask / search the net before buying the seats? Anythings possibly, but the access to the seat box for the battery and ecu etc makes retro fitting different seats difficult in a defender |

Yeah, I know. Probably should have asked but, having seen lots of other threads with different seats being put in (Recaros etc.) I thought that this must have been done by someone? I know that the battery access and ECU access will be impossible without removing the seat but I have literally never had to get access to either of those in 3 years of ownership so it's not really an issue.
I'm more interested if anyone has actually done it, what it looks / feels like and how hard / easy it was. Defender 110 XS 2007 Puma Formerly :- Range Rover Classic Autobiography Discovery 3 90 SW |

Not sure if anyone's interested but I had a play with the seats today. D3 seats do fit in a Defender. The seating position is a little higher up (which is a good thing, I think) but otherwise they're a pretty good fit with only a little modifying and fettling to get them bolted in. I havent bolted them in because I'm actually not sure if it's legal from an MOT perspective to replace the standard seats with ones that have not been type approved for that specific model of car. Further, the seats have seatbelt pretensioners that could not be wired up and there is a tag on each of them which says 'airbag' (ditto).
So, it looks like a set of Exmoor Trim Elites are what I might get instead. Has anyone wired up the existing heated seat buttons to these seats? Is it straightforward? All help and advice much appreciated! Defender 110 XS 2007 Puma Formerly :- Range Rover Classic Autobiography Discovery 3 90 SW |

Did you take some pictures? Would like to see how it looks, was also thinking of replacing my front seats with Disco seats... Cheers, Vincent

Yes, I did but I can't work out how to attach photos without publishing them to the web. Send me your e-mail address and I'll send you them. There are only two. You can have my seats if you want them. They are in perfect condition. Defender 110 XS 2007 Puma

I'm slightly intrigued by this.
Not too sure why you have quickly changed you mind to Exmoors when you say they fitted in ok? I had Rover Coupe seats in mine and they passed many MOT's. As long as they are securely fastened in then there shouldn't be any bother. Not too sure on the pre-tensioners though? I've been contemplating whether to get some new seats for mine, as one of my seat bases is ripped, but I just can't justify paying £200 plus for a set of very basic seats, when you can get a set of seats for half this price from another vehicle that are twice as comfortable! I never have understood why Defender seats are sooo expensive for what they are!...Maybe I am missing something? |

I think he may be worried along the lines of the old d2's that didnt have the 2 boot seats and, without air springs, werent approved for it.
On the defender - its a different story as your changing seats...although i hear your issue of the seatbelt pretensioners....im not sure on that one Mike |
