Defender td5 won't start...
Defender td5 won't start...
Everything was fine last week, this week i had a flat battery chamged it but know it won't start...
The only thing i did was change a relay for led lights.
The starter won't turn, it seems to be an electric problem.

First step is check battery voltage.

Are there any signs of life, it could be the main relay also? Quite a common issue.

Just as an aside. Check the wiring colours as the main relay on my 2003 TD5 was in position 2, not 4 as my book said. tried changing it into the correct space but other relays would not reach. Regards

Assuming you have lights on the dashboard when you turn on the ignition, the only thing stopping the starter turning is the immobiliser or the starter relay. The immobiliser provides an earth for the starter relay when it's disarmed.

The main relay, as it's termed, is for the engine ECU and has no effect on the starter motor circuit on a TD5.

Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it will have armed the immobiliser, are you sure you have disarmed it ? http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

When mine did this it was the starter solenoid. No click, no other issues, full battery...

A quick whack with a bit of wood on the starter solenoid soon sorted it out
