Barbara and I sometimes use a Coleman double air bed, double height in a RV4. We sleep with head towards big mesh window withthe outer flap guyed out. No problem with condensation.
However have found they slowly lose pressure. Brendan |

Never really had a lot of luck with the Air Beds. They are very comfortable if you can keep them inflated all night.
Very romantic as well. As they deflate, you and your other half will roll closer together as the air escapes. Tried different makes but never had a lot of luck. We went for the OzTent Stretchers which doesn't help your question. Search some of the camping forums, but a lot of people swear by the self inflating mats. Never tried one, apart from on the camping shop floor and they weren't for me or the current Mrs. Rashers, but might be worth a try? |

I have a self inflating mat and it is the best bit of sleeping kit money can buy "and they are cheap" .I lent it to my son's girl friend who's at university and never sleeps out doors and had to do a night's camping for her course ,she was very surprises how good and easy to use it was.

We failed with air beds too cold and just don't work with different sized people. Now have self inflating mats and they are very good. Best nights sleep I've had in a tent. James

I'll throw in my 2p worth - couple of years ago we dropped the airbed for the thickest Vango SIMs we could find.
2 Years on and we've gone back to airbeds - me & missus decided the SIMs are just not as comfortable, and one is frayed and leaking air after little use. Had the best week's sleep last summer on a new Coleman double airbed. Just had to top it up a couple of times. We use a nice thick mattress topper, which makes a big difference to comfort & warmth. If I could, I'd take a mattress. Not ready for a caravan yet. |

We have a RV4, up in sunny Scotland its usually raining when we go camping. We bought the fly sheet too, makes a big difference for keeping the rain that little bit away from the main sleeping area, therefor condensation is never really an issue. My wife is always cold so we use a ready bed. Stays inflated no problem and in the colder months we lie on top of an old sleeping bag, with a blanket on top of the ready bed. https://readybed.com/products/adult-readyb...-readybed/
Its horses for courses. I do a fair bit of camping with the Scouts and always use a self inflating mat there, they are ok, but I would not get my wife to camp on one for a weekend. In the winter I also use a cheap foil backed foam mat also, as it helps keep the cold from creeping up. For a really comfy sleep you should maybe try one of these...you get a cracking sleep in one! dd hammock |

Before I was a Landy owner my wife and I toured Europe in my Honda S2000, so as you can imagine space was limited! We used a normal double size blow up air bed, it worked but wasn't great. Now we have more cargo space we use a self inflating pad on top of a camp bed which is way better. When I camp alone I leave the mat at home and put my camping mattress on top of the camp bed instead. I put a pillow on top of the mattress with a fitted single sheet over the top to prevent the pillow falling on the floor. I sleep like a baby in my Oztent RV5!

oz tent stretchers for us in the big tent sometimes with a thermarest underneath if its really cold.
lightweight camping thermarest bought a Vango comfort self inflating mat for ground tent and have to say warm and comfy and well worth the m0ney , done 10 nights on it and slept well. |
