Not according to their respective websites. Lunar were the subject of a management buyout a few years ago from their Dutch parent company. Swift own Sterling and Sprite whilst Elddis own Compass and Buccaneer. Darren

We bought a new Sterling Continental earlier this year. Twin axle and island bed. About our fifth Swift Group twin axle, and all have been excellent of their time, in the sense that another model comes out with some extra desirable feature which prompts a change. Incidentally, all have been towed with Discoveries and Defenders without any chassis damage, jumping threads and without a Shocklink. Ian One wife - livid

Hi We have just come back from the local Swift dealer and looked at a 2014 Conqueror 645 very nice but a bit more than we wanted to pay for our first caravan.

"If you want a caravan to last a lifetime then a German or at least European van is the only way to go" Grafty are these right hand opening doors ,which will cause problems when pitching on camp site with hook up etc .This is my first time into caravanning .Also while you being so helpful Wink what does "Tariff (pitch+2+hook-up ) £18.50 " mean.Pitch is the bit of grass you camp on , £18.50 cost and would think per night ,hook up is power ,whats the +2+ ? ,another question we have got to go to the Helston area in October/November are you near by and open ? Sorry for all the question .

+2 in that context means that your nightly fee includes 2 people. There would be a small surcharge for, say, kids, and possibly pets too.

Elddis is part of the Explore group which has just been bought out by the German company Hymer,
They make caravans under the names Elddis, Compass, Xplore, & buccaneer but are nothing to do with Swift or Lunar,

Ive always been an Elddis fan but after buying this one new 4 months ago now I'm not so sure! Shocked

Thanks rosy should of guessed .I have now purchased a Swift Conqueror 645 Lux don't pick it up until next week ,but it's in Scotland so on the way up from Essex we are booked into a pub in Peebles and then cavavaning or what ever you call it on the way back. The first stop should be close to where we brought it as I have never set up a caravan or even slept in one before and want to do it in the light with no rush,it comes complete and ready to go with awning ,water things ,hook up cable, locks hitch and wheel and more I think Laughing .Will put some pictures up hopefully in sunny Scotland next week. That Elddis looks lovely but the pitch looks a bit tight .

Good luck with it Legin.

And don't worry. The first couple of trips are always a bit of a learning curve but you'll soon get the hang of it. Make sure you bring the big wodge of instruction manuals that always come with caravans ( one for the fridge, one for the heater etc etc ) as you will need to refer to them at some point when you think something's not working but have just pressed the wrong buttons or not turned the gas on etc Laughing

And best of luck with the awning. I've been putting the damned things up for 15 years now and I still scratch my head every time....

Enjoy Thumbs Up

Iggle whats wrong with your new one? Looks lovely

We started with a Freedom then an Elddis 362 then a 4 birth Elddis 524.

Someone however decided they wanted the 524 more than us (despite parked at back of the house the wrong way behind a gate, wheel lock and clamp on) just before our summer holiday 2 years ago Big Cry Big Cry we have been clamping since until we decide what to get. I cannot make the NEC show coming up so will do the next one.

Elddis is high on my list as we have been happy with the past ones.

I love the 8ft wide one but feel the lanes I have towed down it may be just too wide? (Lakes district with dry stone walls....)

We've had 2 Crusader Superstorms & they were excellent caravans, the last was a 2008,
We love the layout of this 840 but these new ones just aren't screwed together anything like the same, "built to a tight budget" springs to mind! Sad

No problems with the width as yet & we've been down a number of tight lanes in North a Wales but you do have to keep your eye on it!
I could imagine it seem a lot wider behind a Defender!

Legin, as for the "divorce in a bag" get yourself an air awning, worth every penny!! Thumbs Up
