Well I for one am glad we fit Rock and Tree sliders.

YES, I have managed to bend one of the Safari Equip ones, however that was the least of my worries. More concerned about the bent chassis, bent front axle and OSF wheel ripped off.

There again one year our local council decided not to grit the roads despite the fact that black ice was forecast. Low speed left hand corner on uphill gradient with adverse camber and very gently slid into concrete bollard. R & T. took out concrete bollard rather then bollard taking out B pillar on a 3 month old vehicle.

I consider them like insurance, good to have but hope not to need them.

However what we decide to fit to our personal vehicles is our personal decision. Sometimes I see vehicles and think "Why?", however not my vehicle, or my decision.

I've done a bit of laning and I've never damaged a sill in 30 yrs of Land Rovering across 3 continents in the 13 Land Rovers I've owned.

I have fitted Southdown jackable sills to a V8 50th - in retrospect a complete waste of time and money. Just for the look really.

But if the look makes you feel good, do it. But don't kid yourself that you need them.

I would t really bother with them for off roading. I'd fit them for on road side impact protection. If you get T boned by a van it'll just keep going until it reaches the chassis rail. Because there's just nothing but a few bits of tin and a weedy little box section, Unfortunately the seats are in the space between the sill and the chassis rail.

I reckon they've saved me from countless car park door dings.

Rock Sliders
I'm a fan of rocksliders for all of the reasons given above!

Ours have saved the doors from being battered in carparks a few times (tell tale paint marks.....) and have probably saved damage to the doors twice whilst offroading.

Having done a fair bit of driving in forestry land recently, they are also really good for deflecting trees and saplings away from the bodysides.

Probably the most useful aspect is being able to walk on then to load stuff on the roof and get the Roof tent down.

If you are going to have them, Id recommend having tree sliders too for the versatility, although I far prefer the look of the ones without the usefulness outweighs the aesthetics!
