Thinking of a re-map?
Review of BAS2 + remap after 18 months 25,000 miles use.

I was very hesitant about doing this mod. until my EGR failed. The only solution that disabled this pesky feature properly involved an EGR delete on the ECM. My independent service guy (Gwyn Lewis, very down to earth bloke) gave such a positive reaction when I asked him about BAS that I went ahead with a remap as well.

After 3 continental trips (3000 miles each) 2 - 2000 mile tours of Scotland and the usual day to day drives I feel that I'm in a good position to review my experiences with my BAS2 remap tool and 165 bhp 440Nm remap.

1 - Setting the tool up - naturaly as a mature man there was no need to read the instructions. Emailed Pete for help one Sunday lunchtime expecting a reply sometime Monday. Instant reply and set up done within an hour Thumbs Up I've had the same rapid response on several occasions since. GREAT SERVICE.

2 - Driving experience - 110 Utility XS transformed - proper motorway/autobahn cruiser easily blending into trafic flow without running out of steam at up to 130+kph. Smooth, quiet and much more refined. Not words I normaly associate with Defenders. GREAT PERFORMANCE.

3 - Off - road - Plenty of green roads where I live as well as winter snow and ice. The remap does not hinder low box progress in the mud and snow and definately helps where smoothness is required. GREAT OFF ROAD.

4 - Diagnostics - this feature has saved me hundreds of pounds and eased the pain of Engine warning light coming on in he middle of rural France - just the MAF sensor so disconnect and clear fault code knowing that nothing terrible is going on! GREAT FOR PEACE OF MIND.

5 - Free updates - continuous development of the maps delivered as a FOC download to the BAS2 - GREAT FUTUREPROOFING.

All in all I can heartily recommend the BAS2 remap tool. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

What is your fuel consumption like? I've half thought about one but would only really do it if I could squeeze another few MPG out of it. 10% savings (2.5mpg) would help pay for it.

I have an Alive map, and that improves fuel economy.
I'd imagine the BAS version has exactly the same effect.

Fuel economy and performance can be be safely increased by running Millers diesel additive also.
I run this all the time.

Agree with OP - don't know when the man Pete Bell sleeps - or whether he has a "double" perhaps?

You email him a question - you get a speedy reply.

My 2.2 puma is booked in on Thursday with Chris at CSK for a Alive remap ,not really looking for better fuel just a smother drive and more power, also comfort suspension kit which includes Bilsteins all round and new springs.

The MPG is a welcome improvement, I'd imagine efficiency and emmisions are reduced also, $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Maybe some improvement in mpg but not measured it. More interested in better drivability Very Happy
I'm certain that the consumption has not increased though.
Less enthusiastic driving would no doubt help as the engine efficiency is much improved. Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

@ sockpuppet specifically re. BAS maps:

i have the BAS2 remote mapping tool and access to both 150AB and 170AB tunes with Pete's hi-flow intercooler.

because i'm a cautious and conservative chap even though i have access to both states of tune i had till May this year used the 150AB tune exclusively for about 9 months. i was really happy - it gave a nice improvement in driving satisfaction. i would describe the map as "perky". i saw a very marginal improvement in mpg if looking for it and calculating it out.

before holidays this year and while notifying my insurance of some other mods i thought i would also list the 170AB map and give it a try. WOW!! feels like a bigger engine rather than a more highly tuned engine if that doesn't sound silly - it's relaxed and torquey with plenty of "shove" in both hi range and low range and always on top of the gear (i suppose all those descriptions are all about torque). i was actually quite shocked at how noticeable and remarkably nice the tune was when in lo box because i hadn't expected that bottom end smoothness at all. i get a solid and consistent 10% improvement in mpg with the 170AB map. thats from driving in a fairly (actually very Smile) spirited fashion 0-65ish but i'm not one for tanking it passed 70. the car has the go but i don't like the wind noise.

both Pete (for customer service) and his maps get a big thumbs up from me! his hi-flow intercooler also massively recommended just for the quality of the product and product design

Thumbs Up Bow down

Does the BAS / Alive remap push up the insurance?

Not in my case but I have been driving for 46 years! Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

Yes, but much better I've never used that RedX stuff.
But many members here have used the Millers permanently and it really works and you can run it permanently.
It will keep you injectors clean also.
It's basically like running on super diesel, but with better additives.

I've used it for around 2 years now, I know startight away if I'm not running it which is never.
I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't 5hp in it. Whistle $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R
