Mike - hope you don't mind me adding my comments here, as I seem to be having identical issues as you. My 110 XS USW went to the dealer today (I collected it new on 1st March, so only had it 18 days and just 200 miles at the moment). They can't find anything wrong with it, but agree that there is a dull/ single knock when the vehicle makes most right turns. Apparently they have looked at "everything", taken it apart, put it back, and it still makes the noise. I've said I'll collect it in the morning and will see how it goes over the wk end, but otherwise it'll be back there on Monday for them to look again.
I've had many good years with this dealer/ on my 4th vehicle from them, so will have patience at this stage. But if they can't find what the noise is then I'm going to have to think about asking them what the options are....e.g., replace etc.. Not sure how strong a position I would be in, but seem to recall that if you return a new car within 28 days I may be in a pretty strong position. I don't want to have a bust-up with them as they are a nice bunch (in fact, best service I have had from any dealer which is why I've stuck with them), but I also don't want £30k+ of new car that goes 'clunk' whenever I turn right.. ![]() '11 Defender 110XS Utility SW '07 Discovery 3 HSE '58 Porsche 356A (not good off road) '59 Lambretta (not good on or off road!) |

This may be totally stupid, and please forgive me, but this couldn't be as simple as the jack/battery/wheel wrench in the passenger under-seat locker box being loose?

Picked the truck up yesterday morning. Have not had a chance to test drive it properly yet so don't know if the 'knock' has stopped on right turns yet. The drifting to the left is definitely cured though, so fingers crossed... Simon

Got out for a short drive this afternoon. The knock has improved for sure - happens much less often and is quieter now too it seems. Still there, but I will see how next couple of days go. Mike - if you are still getting probs then I'll try and pinpoint from dealer exactly what they did as it may help? Simon

Its now at the dealer being looked at. Annoyingly it stopped doing it yesterday when driving offroad so it seems like whatever was causing has "re-seated" or something else. Still, they're going to look at it.
would still beinterested to know what the cause of yours was and others would be interested im sure |

Also I have a single "knock" and it comes from the rear right corner when I turn to the right. The sound is not dependent on how fast I take the turn.
I thought that it comes from loose objects in one of my storage boxes. But even with "empty" car the sound was still there. I am waiting anxiously to know what caused the problem. Correction 22 March: Sorry, I mean "knock" on LEFT side of the car when turn to the right. Puma 90 MY 2010 (sold 2017) Defender 110 MY 2001 http://www.youtube.com/bjartin |

Well, after a few more miles in mine today I'm satisfied that the 'knock' happens a lot less often. Drove about 10 miles in it this morning and only heard it twice - would have heard it at least a couple of dozen of times before. It is also quieter (not that it was actually loud before, but it sounds more 'muffled' now).
To be honest I'd hardly notice it now, so will see how next couple of days go. I'm happy that it's now "flagged" with them so if anything subsequently goes in the future then I should be covered ![]() '11 Defender 110XS Utility SW '07 Discovery 3 HSE '58 Porsche 356A (not good off road) '59 Lambretta (not good on or off road!) |

Ok back from dealer. had certain things replaced, all fine, but re the above problem"
"we can't look at that because you have modified the suspension" argued to no avail. still stuck with this one. one possibly positive comment the guy said was "how about the outriggers/body mounts". Whilst I kinow my around mechanicals and suspension, I have no idea when it comes to panels or mounts and such like. Can anyone offer any pearls of wisdom? |
