We have similar issues and I also had similar ideas. I was thinking either with seats up or down with backs folded forward.
Last time we camped we used several plastic boxes with lids giving a flat top for more storage which worked well. The difficulties of packing was one reason we got the trailer to keep all the camping gear in to make easier/quicker to get packed and going. The trailer has meant the folding board ideas have been shelved! Shelved... Get it...

I could use the sankey but didn't want to tow this all over Scotland.. I may have a go at making something, I tried box's but so much stuff does not fit in 'neatly' maybe having a shelf I could use them also? |

If you're going to load it higher than the back seats can I suggest you get a cargo guard as well. I have one and the top half is removable if required. You can then tie things to it in the back and safer for everyone if you have to brake hard.

Your right my last cars had nets from the back that covered anything moving forward in case you needed to stop quickly.

Was thinking something similar too. I built a dog divider using ply, which folds down so it's easy to store. However, this was with the seats out. So built another one for seats in.
Would be quite easy to do, and would take the advise to get a cargo divider. Look forward to seeing what you create. |

I have the fridge on the LHS of the vehicle and frontier stove, kitchen box and laundry (25l container that jiggles as we drive) on the RHS. Each box in the rolling storage is a box of clothes for each person. Bell tent travels on the roof. Under the shelf that it sits on lives the dry food box, basic tools and camp chairs |

maybe www.8020.net can help. Its available in the UK through RS Online (http://uk.rs-online.com/web/) amongst other places.
because all the joining is taken care of all you need to do is cut it to length. They make compatible fixings that allow you to fix the panels in. I believe this is how Goose Gear in the USA are making a living... and charging a small fortune. Ross |

With the two hatches either side (about £98 each from vehicle widows .co.uk or something, £500 each for those front runner ones... you've got to be joking!!!! ) and the slide in the back it made it very easy to access everything.
The unit just bolts into the wood that spans the wheel arches so it's easy to remove. It is now actually serving as a baby change and storage unit in our house and I've salvaged the slides for mark 2.0. I found that needing to take a large push chair with us on the roof was more annoying than the storage in the back. Although I have a plan for that now. I designed it on CAD and had it cnc'd out. It's held together with CT1, a flexible amazing I'll glue anything to anything in any environment including underwater glue. (It's amazing!) available from fixingswarehouse. It's also what I bonded he hatches into the Landy with. The unit just slotted together with a few clamps. Left for 24 hours and I deemed it a success. I finished it with theee coats of polyurethane so it's very smooth and pretty waterproof now also! I also used the CT1 to patch a few unused bolt holes in my tub. I discovered it when my neighbour wanted to glue some rocks to a pond line underwater. He called Bostik. They were no use and said they had no products that were useful. He then found CT1 which is evo friendly, non toxic amazing sticky stuff. And good value. I can't rate it enough. |

Hi folks, been meaning to ask this for ages but keep getting distracted by the Joke of the day thread.
Did anyone come up with a sensible way of creating a ‘shelf’ around half way up the rear cargo area with the tumble downs still in place? Ideally removable in less than 10 mins. I have a dog / cargo guard so could use that as support for the front, and protection from airborne luggage... Cheers, Matt |
