I'm in - PM sent! Who else fancies this? TC - must be reasonably local for you (well, compared to the 125 miles for me anyway )
Any other Kent/ Sussex/ Essex owners on here fancy it - I'm going to set off early, grab some breakfast as we get near, then trundle back same day. Should be better than the usual Saturday of running kids to parties etc. Simon '11 Defender 110XS Utility SW '07 Discovery 3 HSE '58 Porsche 356A (not good off road) '59 Lambretta (not good on or off road!) |

Damn, looks like I'm already spoken for on the 19th, would have been there like a shot - breakfast at the Popham (Heston) Littlechef is usually worth a stop if you are looking for ideas?

Yep, did Popham on the way down to Somerset a while back - had Heston's fish n' chips and the girl even sprayed vinegar in the air to add to the 'experience'
Good fish n' chips though I'm getting my GLASS membership set up at the moment, so will be looking for some green lanes round Kent/ Sussex over the next few weeks - maybe we can get a small group of us out once we identify some reasonable lanes. The wardens are not to be feared. If you are on a legal track then they will leave you alone. Unless you keep driving over the same bit again and again. Like the bit by Copehill Down. It is a big boggy mess and is a bone of contention with all the users going off piste there.
I worked on the Plain from 07 til Jan 11 so know it fairly well. There are so many tracks that are interesting you don't need to be a pain and go off piste. A bit of research will go a long way. The best indicator for ranges being busy are the flags or red lights if you are out a bit late. Just remember that even though troops are in a particular area if you are on a byway they have no juristiction to stop you. They can ask you to pause a while to keep their battle momentum going but they can't enforce that. I was out with a couple of mates the other day and came across 2 drop short ruperts, who told us we were heading into the impact zone. Funny that they were on the track junction where we wanted to turn to avoid going into said impact area. And they didn't quite grasp the concept of us turning. Until the lead car pulled out his scren with MM on. . Hi All
Went down to Salisbury Plain today with a few friends. Blue sky - it was just like summer. Apart from three Challenger tanks, two Warriors and a few dog walkers we had the whole place to ourselves Some pics Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Mark |

Wish I'd been there! I was at the dealers at 8:30 to collect the wagon cursing the lovely weather and thinking I would have been on the A303 somewhere if it had gone to plan. Next time... Good to see in pic No 2 that you went off piste to play in the mud and got stuck and then take a pic to incriminate yourselves .
I know where that is and you went to the right hand side of the legal right of way. I drove that route not 4 weeks ago and you can get through between the very LH track and the first puddle. This is the problem, the first track got chewed up so people went round, then that got chewed up so people now go round that. Where will it end. Well if you keep going round that puddle ater a few years it'll be by Copehill Down!!!!. 110 D250 SE HT 110 USW SOLD RRE HSE Dynamic Gone, wife killed it VOLVO XC60 R Dynamic with some toys Polaris RZR 900XP SOLD |

I did a couple of days on the plain with the landy towners .
We camped in a small site on the edge of the plains and took dino the defender (because the ice defender is in "zag" condition a d I'm going to keep it that way.) Anyway the plains are really dry and dusty but the are open. You need local knowledge I went with a guy called chunkster .... He gas been laning on the plains for 2-3 years If anyone interested in weekends camping and some lanes let me know as there is a bank holiday coming up at the end of the month BP |

Hi bpman - did you ever get rid those bumperettes in the end?
Just did some lanes over the weekend but was only going from os map and looking for byways. There were loads of them but mostly gravel tracks? Anyway - if you are looking to do a trip would love to come along and would be happy to donate some beer tokens! Stayed at a lovely campsite on salisbury racecourse also which was nice! James |
