As LRA says, both are invaluable and one does not replace the other. I have often found I've used both in conjunction with each other, using the Workshop manual for the step by step process and the restoration manual as a guide of the order to do things in and processes specific to restoration such as bodywork touch up. Matt.

Actually they have done a good job...
All the usual main maintenance jobs tackled more from the 'strip and rebuild' perspective About 50% of the Manual is Body Work, Interior and Exterior. If your Defender is or is about to be fully stripped and rebiult, then this is a worthwhile 'Guide' The 200 & 300 tdi's / TD5's are covered / used as examples and whilst much of the basics carry through to the Pumas (or can be interpreted for 2.4 / 2.2 owners) the arrival of the Haynes Puma Manual in September will hopefully fill this 'gap' For the money...it should be on the book shelf... How does one get hold of an "φfficial" Puma W.S. Manual?...I didn't think there was such a thing.

At just over a fiver it's damned good value for money. Let's hope The Icon published by JLR will be just as good value.
Pickles, I have the feeling that WS manuals as published by LR have now been .sent into the annals of history, it's a shame as they were excellent. Defender 90XS SW Mini Countryman Cooper S Morgan Plus 8 |

Date of publication is 7/14 on that one.
Wouldn't the "new" one in question be a later version? Pickles. |

Says this in the description...
This completely new, all-colour version of a best-selling restoration manual contains a wealth of new guidance, particularly on later Defender models. |

The book does seem to feature a great many Britpart components, so I suspect some kind of arrangement there! It doesn't detract from the information in the book though. I was amused by the section about replacing the alpine lights on a hartop roof, where apparently the window glass simply wouldn't fit in the apertures; finally the installer (from Autoglass) noticed that the Britpart rubbers were the wrong size! Britpart strikes again, lol. Hopefully they weren't involved in the physical production of the book, otherwise the pages will probably fall out.
Overall it is not a bad book, I wouldn't bother at full price but at the bargain basement price I an well chuffed. |
