Cable entry for light bar
Hi all

I am soon to wire up at last!! A roof rack mounted Laser light bar, what is the best route to run the cable, it leaks enough as it is with out adding a hole to the roof Shocked are there any other ideas? I have a RAI so might fit that and utilise it some how?

I'm planning on fitting one eventually. I would just run the cable in through the top of the air intake then bring it out into the inner wing.

If you have a RAI / Snorkel and rack run it down the outside of it, but nearest the windscreen pillar out of sight.
You barely notice it and is common practice with extended breathers.
Plastic zip ties will do fine.

You can terminate the ends with heatshrink to prevent water ingress down the convoluted tube also.

That will take you down and into the engine bay, but it might be a tight fit if you go too big with the tube or wiring.

Soft PVC sheath may be an option in that case if need be.

In the engine bay, youcan take and in-line fused feed directly from the alternator rather than going all the way back to the battery. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.

As custom90steve says, I have run it along the raised air intake in a black conduit pipe, then under the bonnet.

Interesting product ^^^^^

I see no reason at all as to why that could not be bonded on, especially as it's just a cable protector.

I'd avoid drilling the pillar, I never did with my Safari and made a custom bracket. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.

Very true, though if its bonded would be annoying to remove/add cables should you ever need to.

Interested in this custom bracket tho any piccys?

3mm IIRC Stainless 'L' section.
I have painted it, but not on mating faces an it is bonded on.
After intitial during no problems at all. Nor any drilling.

Can't see any issue with the cable thing myself?
Surely you can cable thread in situ?

I'd definitely consider bonding on as well. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.

Yes, Sika as recommended.
Many people swear by it but personally I don't like it or it's finish so finished of with a quality neutral cure black Silicone.

Regardless, no issues in any way. Thumbs Up Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes.

What me and my dad did with his, we ran the wire through the top of the snorkel and then through the out though the system in the engine bay, then up behind the dash to where it needed to get power from. who ever had wired it in before, had ran the wire behind the door seal and into the dash. So water was just Censored in! They added the earth to one of the window screen bolts too, So it was a very untidy job and a half arsed one too!
So we practically overhauled the full lot. We replaced the toggle switch with a three way switch. So that the rear lights could come on separately. I moved the earth to the steering column support, so it was out of sight. All looks a nice neat little job now. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
