Finally got round to fitting my posh new Startech. I gave up trying remove the old original steering wheel, no matter how much I tried pulling, wriggling and bashing it wouldn't come off.
Decided to drive it to my local LR independent and they eventually managed to get the old one off. One mechanic pulled mega hard on one side while his mate gave several almighty whacks on the other side, with a lot of huffing, puffing and swearing it eventually came off! The new steering wheel plus the raised adjustable seat rails provide a much roomier driving position. The Startech is also SO much nicer to hold than the original. Cheers Barbara and Brendan |

I have only driven about 6 Defenders with smaller diameter Steering Wheels, but with this change in 'geometry' alone within the Defender Cabin (IMO) it is worth the swap, some like the original set up, which is fine, but the increased 'room to maneuver', and with the power assisted steering doing most of the work, the Startech just looks and feels right.
I would hazard a guess that most who 'go smaller'...don't go back. There are some nice Steering Wheel examples out there to choose from now...but also many that are 'trying too hard' (Fast and Furious Style). The Startech is just very nice to get get behind...for me absolutely my top mod (when combined with a quick release mechanism*...* this can be added down stream as I did, as with every security layer not 100%, but it is a significant one IMO).
