Hi Clayton
I think most switches are ‘just on/off’ so that is not the issue, the power drain of the item is the issue and my heated seats have a high power drain and need a 30amp fuse and use a relay as, from what I can remember, as the power will go right through the switch and quickly burn it out. Those who are more informed about the dark art of electricity will no doubt give more information and correct my post if I’m wrong Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

From memory for a Puma...
The power for the seats is through a relay activated by the ignition. This cuts power when the key is off. The same circuit has the power windows and rear wiper(if fitted). I've bypassed mine to give me live windows, no ignition required. The down side to the modification is if you have seat heaters they will drain the battery if left on when parked up. Cheers, Kyle. |

As said previously.. you should use a relay. The switch should be connected to an ignition live which then goes to the relay to power the relay which allows the current to flow from the battery to the seats. Heres an article with some pics and a simple diagram

Many thanks Kyle
Thank you Profyaffle good article but it doesn't say what relays he used I'm assuming that it can be any on/off switch as long as it is wired to the ignition ? many thanks. Clayton. 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. |

I'm not sure which relay, my kit was all made up and I just had to plumb it in and connect to an ignition live and the battery power. Also my seats have a high and low heat setting so the switch has three positions (high, low, off). Do your seats just have one setting?
