Are push button doors a direct replacement for the lift up handle doors?

Go with whatever colour wheels you want, don't worry about what other people think the doors should be a straight swap. Ray

You'll need to swap door strikers and potentially drill some holes in the pillars if going to push-button doors. All the internals and the door cards etc. will also be different so make sure your new doors come with those bits. The lift-up handle one-piece ones like yours fetch decent money, even knackered, so don't scrap them.
Personally I'd retain them and the other period features rather than turn it into another Corris Grey Puma clone, however each to their own. Will make a nice first car, wish I'd had a V8 CSW when I was 17! |

Thanks retroanaconda
It would've made have made a nice car at 17 but it's been a very slow restoration project so it hasn't on been out on public roads. But I have been able to drive other cars so that's alright. I think this engine is the low comp version and have heard that 4.6 heads increase it, is that right? If only insurance would allow for a 4.6 or even better an LS Is it worth keeping the lt85 or switching to the r380, in which case which is which is the better box suffix K or L? Thanks Sam |

I've seen anthracite on 110's but never gold and can't really decide between the two, if I worried about what other people thought I probably would've ended up with a diesel Corsa and not a 110 v8 |

I had a very noisy LT85 on mine and swapped in a recon LT85. It is not quite as noisy.
Engine noise drowns out most other noises anyway. Seems robust enough to me so far fine for on and off road driving. 1st to 2nd is a bit iffy sometimes, but you get used to it. I haven't driven an R380 to compare. |

Would a muffler delete be a bit too antisocial?

A muffler delete would definately not be anti social, on a typical 17 year olds car yes, but not on a v8. You will be playing a lovely tune for the people!
Fair play to you, completely original idea to own of these at 17 years of age, will be the envy of many others once your hard work has paid off i'm sure! Looking forward to seeing the progress is |

If the LT85 is working okay then don't swap for the sake of it. It's quite an 'agricultural' gear change, even by Land Rover standards, but a strong enough unit.
As for R380 suffixes, I believe K and L are close enough to not really matter. So whatever you can get ingood nick. V8 boxes are pretty rare though, especially in Defender fitment. |
