Mounting an awning to G4 roofrack
I'm looking into either the ARB expedition awning or the Front Runner easy out awning. I have a genuine G4 tubular expedient rack on my 110 and can't visualise how it would mount to the side.

I fancy one to provide shade/cover; for the dog, when I'm snoozing in my soon to be home made roadie hammock when on day trips or packing away the caravan in inclement weather.

The Front Runner YouTube video shows two L shaped brackets for any rack, but again can't visualise it my mind. 🤔

1. Thoughts/experiences of the two awnings?
2. 2x2m or 2x2.5m?
3. Mounting solutions/ideas/instructions etc (maybe with pics)?

Thanks in advance. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

Clamp the L shape bracket to the tubes of the rack with U bolts of the right diameter. Darren

Heh, heh, no problem. Sometimes the solutions don't need to be complicated. Darren

Hmm, thinking whilst riding to work this morning I'm going to have to be creative with some rubber (oh er) as I can't be having he L shaped brackets or U bolts touching my un marked powder coated rack.

My OCD can't manage that!!

That's okay Smile An alternative would be to use P clips that are available with a rubber sleeve. I used them to attach all sorts of things to a Safety Devices rack on a Discovery 1, years ago. Darren

I made some brackets for my Fiamma awning, hooked over one bar and attached with 'P' clips at the bottom.
Hopefully you can just use p clips for the bought brackets!

Yes!!

All good stuff! Thanks again LRA and db950 for the pics.

Later today the father in law will be tasked to make brackets similar to yours db, seeing as though he's the manager of a metal fabrication firm. Similar but not the same as the 'basket' on my rack is narrower than the roof rails as it's a 2003 event 110. He'll be able to design something secure and anti theft!

Photo of the type of rack from the web....

This along with work my work stuff and the father in laws schedule prossibly means it won't be ready for my week in West Wales week after next so I may hold out buying the awning until billing to see if I can save a few pennies. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!

Ah yes, forgot the G4 rack was different!
Pretty sure you'll come up with something though with access to a lot better metal working equipment than I had Thumbs Up

I know mate, he done his apprenticeship there and has worked there since. He's now the manager.

The roof rack was in a bad state so that (and another G4 owners club members rack) was sorted as was my rear X member and NAS step touched up. Rear door sills and probably a new rear X member will be done before retirement.

I'd like to say it's all been free, but whilst I've not handed over any actual money........I've spent 7 LONG years living with his daughter, her daughter, and their cat!!!! 😖

haha. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful!
