United Kingdom 2015 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Santorini Black
My 90 is exactly two years old and the lower front grille is starting to suffer from oxidisation. I know it's still under warranty but if the dealer replaces it then the same will happen again so i have decided to replace it myself with stainless.

The question is:- natural finish or black?

Does anyone have any photos of a natural stainless lower grille fitted to a black or dark coloured vehicle? Defender 90XS SW

I decided to forget claiming for a replacement intercooler grille under warranty as I would just finish up with another cheap aluminium grille that would start corroding as soon as it was fitted. I decided to purchase a Natakanenga stainless grille from Brendan and Barbara. It was in natural finish rather than body colour and decided to attach it with stainless torx pan head M5 set screws. I'm pretty sure this one will last longer than 23 months!

Looks much better! In hindsight, I would have used stainless bolts.

Nice plate! Is that photoshop of indeed B1? Shocked James

The problem is they seem to make this grille from the cheapest ally they can, so i think there's little point getting your existing one powder coated, as it'll likelly only last another couple of years. There are stainless ones available both in bare stainless or powder coated black.

I fitted a cheap Britpart stainless one, it's fine.

Whay options do yo have re replacemenr ss grills is it just britpart or Nak......?mine is at the dealers at the moment ..trying to bodge the blower gap issue and they want to send of the grill to be resprayed and im wondering if its worth it.

Does anybody know if Natakanenga changed the specs on their grill as you can see from this picture it looks like they have made the gap between the holes larger and changed the shape of the holes ,i guess to avoid corrosion !

I have always found Natakanenga products to be very well made and was thinking of buying a grill!

It's more likely they have changed the spec of the steel, possibly from 304 to 316. 316 is less prone to corrosion, particularly from salt water. Maybe yours is manufactured from 304 and would therefore not be as resistant to salt spray as 316. Maybe a quick call to Nakatanenga. Defender 90XS SW

That isnt mine dm i was searching on here as i was thinking of changing the grill for stainless and i came across the rusty Natakanenga grill post i was looking for options other than Natakanenga or britpart ..from my experience rust is attracted to corners, .edges, and narrow parts of bigger sheets and im not sure if Natakanenga has changed the steell quality as i think it was better than 316..but they have deffo changed the design.I like Natakanenga stuff i just dont like the wolf logo ... to me it looks like a rat and it spoils the original look they are going for...

I'm with you regards the logo, I wasn't keen. However once it's fitted it's right in the bottom corner and is angled downwards so you don't tend to notice it. Defender 90XS SW

Mines also starting to flake. Will get it looked at in the new year. Will be two years old. Will continue with the warranty route until it expires. That’s what it is for!

I have just purchased this one .. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Air-Con-Grille-...Sw5cNYQrvT 316 ss and you get ss fixings with it and looks a lot like the original I just could not bring myself to buy that Natakanenga version which i know will be great quality but i dont know how they can say it looks original when its got a wolf logo grinning at you!..i am in the same camp as you regarding the warranty but you know it will corrode again so if you can get over the principle thing i woud change and forget!

Reading the spec it's made from 316 grade stainless so you shouldn't have any problems with corrosion and you wont have the wolf winking at you. The torx machine screws are an added bonus as well. I'm not a fan of pop rivets - sounds ironic from someone who loves his Land Rovers Embarassed Defender 90XS SW
