England 2012 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 XS CSW Indus Silver
Diff oil change
My 2012 90 has just passed 40k and I have been doing the servicing myself thanks to all the help and advice on this excellent forum. Having drained the oil from the diffs I find that the oil is a completely different colour from each diff. The rear one looks like fairly fresh oil and the front one is very black. Both seem to be free of any debris, smooth and no particles when you rub it in your fingers. Any idea why the front diff oil is so dirty? And should I be worried by it? Photo attached.

The front probably has a load of the grease from the CV joints in it, the seals at the ends of the axle tubes aren't very good.

Well that's good news then. Nothing to worry about. Thank you.
