Included in the £500 cost is also, the provision of a courtesy car and staff to collect/deliver your vehicle, the tea, coffee and buiscuits you sample in their showroom, the nice sofa you sit on in the air conditioned stylish showroom. The pretty receptionist, the Land-Rover branded overalls your technician wears. On top of the usual parts materials and garage equipment.
Whether all that is worth it to you is different matter. If it's not then you can take your car to any reputable (VAT registered) garage and have the vehicle serviced, even have warranty work carried out with out affecting your warranty - EU block exemption rules (and your Land Rover warranty schedule) says so. If you use an independent LR specialist, then they'll likely even have access to Land Rover's software, checklists, technical data and service records too. |

I shall certainly try to consume more than my fair share of tea, biscuits and whatever else is on offer in the fridge when I take my Defender in for its end of year 5 corrosion inspection shortly. At £54 they are having a laugh but I guess its a small price to pay if any tin worm does set in before the end of the 6th year.
Once it was out of warranty at the end of year 3 I moved to servicing it myself and saved a fortune. I also went beyond the service plan sheet, by draining the oils all round for extra piece of mind. Trickiest job was refilling the main gearbox with the correct amount of oil, But I invested in a pressurised oil filler off ebay which made the job a lot easier. Messiest job I find is removing the plastic engine oil filter housing when its windy outside |
