Canada 2000 Defender 110 Td5 SW Bonatti Grey
130 frame question
Thinking of going down the 130 road and want to study up on the specifics. (keep the 110, start a 130 project).

I understand that the original frames were 110's that were stretched, and later on in production, specific 130 frames were fabricated. Could anyone confirm when that change in the frame construction was?

Apparently the load capacity is about 20% more than a 110, how do the brakes perform at full load? it's a Landrover thing...

don't think there was any change in chassis construction, they maybe started making them the correct length from the beginning rather than cutting a 110 and then welding in the additional 17" could be wrong...

Load capacity for the 110 is 1.03T and the 127/130 is 1.4T

Not had any problems with the brakes on mine with full loads in the rear and trailer on the back full of sh*te too.
Looking at going down the EBC Greenstuff or ultimax route once its time to renew the pads on mine so that may be worth a look too White '03 RoW 300tdi 130 Utility (Converted From HICAP By Foleys Specialist Vehicles)

The change from a stretched 110 chassis to a scratch built 130 chassis came in 1990 when the Defender name was introduced, they also changed the name from 127 to 130, although they are the same length.

Brakes are fine on a 130, fully loaded and with a 2.4Te trailer, there is some increase in stopping distance, but thats just down to the laws of physics.

Mine is a 2010 and does not have ABS/ TC, I believe the ABS was added to the very last models but I don't really miss it, only ever driven one ABS defender and that was a 110 off road so I can not really compare if it would help stop 3.5Te at 70mph if a child ran out in front of me.

The far too many time Jo/Joe Public has pulled out in front of me (because they think I am slow, which I am not) means that I've done more than my share of emergency stops and it has never let me down.

Czech Republic 1999 Defender 130 Td5 HCPU Baltic Blue
Max weight of 110 with HD suspension and 130 is the same 3500kg. No real difference in braking. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufĂ­nek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile
