Clay bar
How long does a bar last (how many cleans) and do you have to use the spray provided or will a water based solution do the same

It depends on the clay bar as to what you use for lubricant, some will work with water others won't. the life of the bar depends on how much contamination you have on your car, how much bar you use.. you should break pieces off and mould it in your hands to shape it into a small patty that is comfortable for you to work with. Use it, re-mould and use again. I throw each piece away when it gets dirty. I have now moved off clay bars and onto clay cloths or mitts.. can be used with water, covers a greater area and is much quicker and easier to work with especially on something the size of a landy Wink 1993 200Tdi Defender 90

^^^^ This, I tend to use it twice and no more.

If you drop it, that's it finished.

I use Meg's with lube spray. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

i'd vote for a clay cloth too, much less hassle.

The lubricants they sell to go with the clay bars are basically just soapy water, so pretty much any soapy water will do. Even a few drops of Fairy liquid in a bucket of water, although that's not ideal because of the salt content.

Not used a clay cloth but willing to give it a go. I tend to use the clay bar only once on the bodywork, then use it for cleaning the windows. I always use a lubricant, it's so cheap anyway. Defender 90XS SW
