You probably know this, but on a S1, or any drum-braked LR, if you keep your left foot on the brake moderately firmly whilst in the water, it will stop the linings getting so wet. Also make sure the circumferential drain holes in the drums are clear.

Everyone knows to drive with a foot on the brakes for a while after leaving the water to dry them (something, incidentally, you can't do with a TDCi because the ecu will kill the throttle), but I have always been surprised how few seem to know how to keep the brakes dry in the first place.

I love your photos, very evocative, and they make me want to get my 80s back on the road. They also reminded me of the day a pheasant came within inches of my face when I had the screen down!

The 80 inch was the only version which looks right with the screen down, the high hinges and long props on the 86 onwards never looked right to me.
