Ok I know not a Defender!

However looking at getting one to add to my Land Rover garage - so taking it up to 4 - age range will be 19858 to 2017!

So any views - good bad, nice ride etc etc - going to be used as a family car with 3 to 4 trips to France a year.

SD4 or Td4? - or do I wait till the 2018 MY comes out = apparently more engine options with ad blue and petrol ones Surprised

Much appreciated to gain folks thoughts ... Cheers

Simon

I had one as a courtesy vehicle while the defender was being serviced, it was ok but I didn't really think that much of it. Visibility I thought was a bit of an issue. I guess I'd be tempted to have a look at a Velar though............... The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.

Utterly hideous. The front end and sides are alright but it seems who ever designed it came in drunk on a Friday afternoon to finish the rear.

I would look at the Velar, much better looking from every angle, about the same size and full of some very fancy tech. I personally love the retracting door handles!

We have one Smile and it's a big hit with my wife and kids.

I'd avoid the older 2.2 and get the newer engined 150bhp or 180bh (lower road tax and better on fuel) If you want seven seats you'll have to get the 180 version.

We have a 150 HSE and I wouldn't go below that spec level. Lots of clever stuff without being over the top. We had a more base level SE as a couresy car and missed the electric seats, auto zenon headlights lights, autowipers, panoramic roof etc and the blue tooth in the SE was more basic also.

If money is no object then buy a Velar or whatever else but the Disco sport works well for us (family of 4) and the boot is large.

Did someone mention the Velar?

Not really an alternative to a Discovery Sport though. It's probably twice the price, for a start. Darren

Had a Disco Sport as Courtesy Vehicle. Slow, agriculture, slow tech, friends and family felt car sick in it and very expensive to buy from what I gather when I got back to collect my 110. Engine management light came on as well after 100 miles!.

I personally wouldn't buy one. Try something from our German or Swedish friends if you need it for mainly road work.

I actually really like the look of the Discovery Sport (not driven one though), prefer it over the Evoque. Small article in this months LRO on the new engine options which sound worth waiting for. The Velar does look lovely but don't know how it compares size and price wise?

My other half has just bought an Evoque, she tried the Disco Sport but liked the styling and size of the Evoque more. The Velar sits between the Evoque and the RR Sport , quite a bit more pricey than a Disco Sport.

Just the opposite to Defender9, my wife decided on the Disco Sport rather than the Evoque simply because it had more room in the back. My wife loves driving it and I have to admit so do I. She decided on SE Tech specification with auto box. Defender 90XS SW

I've had a Discovery sport HSE as a courtesy car for jut over 3 weeks now and it is a lovely car , the auto box is a bit snatchy for my liking and I can't work the flappy paddle gear shift thingy , but it's great to drive and it is growing on me ,
Would I have one ? Nope not for my lifestyle anyway . it's a great car but to me jut a car

Had many as courtesy cars. Never really liked the interior. My dad had a Freelander 2 and I much preferred that!

Prefer the styling of the evoque, but there's a fair bit less room in them

My dad has recently looked at the options currently available: disco sport, f-pace, evoque, Lexus thing and Porsche Macan. Porsche was slightly more money but won hands down on residuals. F-pace is worth a look... But there are some major design faults when spec'ing spare wheels etc. and no movement in price 6-8 months ago

I honestly get bored driving modern day automatics. A defender, although hard work, is so much more enjoyable!

I had a load one whilst my Defender was in for a service. I couldn't wait to get my Defender back either. To me it was just a big car - not really my thing. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Had a Disco Sport as Courtesy Vehicle whilst our 110 was in for warranty work. We took it away to the North of Scotland... Things we noticed..

BAD POINTS.....The roof lining was floppy and not well secured....Moving away from every intersection was a gamble, Especially if you hadnt stopped completely... Waiting for the auto box to sort it's life out was scary, Especially if your used to a manual...Rear vision is marginal and I found it a struggle to see the rear quarters (and that coming from a 110 utility!!!)... The tailgate is made of plastic and squeaks badly over rough surfaces...

GOOD POINTS.... It wasn't mine and I could give it back...

In all honesty, It was a completely forgettable car and had no personality at all....

Regards

Tim It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...
