Mine is brown and the top 2 elements have failed, going to get it looked at when it goes in for a service later this month.

it's just discouleration due to the heat

That's interesting my top two elements don't work either. It will go in to the dealer to be sorted out

The wires are made with silver mix.

Could be that the high level brake light rubs on the elements and wears it away!

The top two stop for that reason - there is a fix for it! Mike

Absolutely not..... but there is another problem..........
The problem is the 3rd stop tail rubber piece, probably it release rubber solvent that "eat" the heated element Dealer changed me the rear windows two times. Now I cutted (below) the rubber (5 on the figure) and make same sockets (where are 90° tracks curves and stop carries) for avoid contacts from the heating tracks and the rubber. Now the problem IS solved...

Both my heated rear screen element and the high level brake light element on the glass are broken.
I had to run a wire up from the connector on the bottom right of the glass to to the high level brake light to get it to work. Last edited by DAZ110 on 11th Mar 2011 9:12am. Edited 1 time in total |

Interesting.
had my rear window replaced under warranty. no questions, no drama. also had my front screen changed as it was de-misting unevenly, left a strip down the middle of the drver side until last. now fine. very impressed by the warranty service but by the sounds of it it seems a common problem on the rear window BM52 |

Hmm, my top two elements have failed as well, I mentioned it to my dealer who made a big thing of saying 'as it's for you sir, we will simply change the whole rear screen, just bring it in'. Perhaps they were not quite as generous as I first thought!!

as I posted many moons ago put some insulating tape on the 'rubbed' area to prevent it happening again
