I do indeed drive a lot of gravel roads, the worst thing is our drive. It's compacted gravel and about 1/4 mile long, when you get out into the road the noise is pretty violent! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

This week I was under the defender changing springs and I wonders to myself how good a liner for the arches would be. I spent the first hour of work cleaning out mud, stones, leaves and a pieces of a dead bird from various places that a liner wold block. It is a shame that these are too much expensive for my budget but I will try to create my own idea solution.

Having seen the pictures again, I would say it would be fairly easy to make them yourself 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I think that it's not necessary or good to use GRP like these company do. Why? Becuase the noise of the gravel hitting the GRP will be just as loud as the noise you want to kill. Semi-rigid rubber much better to work into the area in question.
I think a summer project for me later |

I have had them, but removed them because a lot of dirt will get trapped between them and the body. This will keep these places dirty and moist, good for accelerated rot. I think it is best to keep things as open as possible so you can clean trapped dirt regurlarly and let things dry quickly. Cheers, Vincent

That is definitely a point worth considering, however, I wash my defender at least weekly and have an industrial steam cleaner which I use once a month so I can get all the hidden dirt out where it likes to gather.
Another option is to make them easily removable by using twist lock clips like those on the fuel filter housing 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I have a full set of Gwynn Lewis liners on my 110 and they cover all of the annoying nooks and crannies, and go some way to deadening the gravel pinging to the underside. They make cleaning much simpler for sure.

I'd definitely recomment the Gwyn Lewis shields.
I recon you could just fill in the bit above the wheel with a bit of rubber conveyor belt, that's the bit that's going to take the hammering from stones |
