Blackwolf, I was going to write a post with my thoughts but you have done it for me! Totally agree. I cannot get my head around just how poor the conservative campaign was, their manifesto was ill advised and ill thought out and gave Corbyn and his henchmen an easy opportunity to put the boot in. I cannot recall one inspiring speech by any heavyweight tory during the campaign, indeed it seemed to me like they all went into hiding. My feelings are best summed up by my 19 year old daughter who voting for the first time asked me on polling day: " I want to vote for the conservatives as I don't believe a word Jeremy Corbyn says yet I have no idea what they stand for as i have heard nothing from them during the campaign. I know all about Corbyn's manifesto as I have not been able to get away from it" I think that just about sums up the tory level of ineptitude during the past few weeks... 2015 Defender 90XS HT |

No, the Conservatives are the largest party and have a long standing relationship with the DUP (Northern Ireland). They have the majority of seats between them. If all the other parties joined together as a single coalition they would still not have the votes to get a majority. Labour made ground but they are still a long way behind, the Tories have a 57 seat lead over Labour still. The other parties can make life difficult but can't overturn anything without help from Tory MPs. We don't actually vote for a prime minister in the UK we vote for local MPs and the party that has the most MPs wins and the leader of that party normally becomes the prime minister. That's why a change of party leader (and prime minister) doesn't need a new election. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/ Last edited by davew on 9th Jun 2017 11:14am. Edited 1 time in total |

Anyhow Michael Gorbachev observed and postured the question of centralist control with little representation," we've just got rid of it and you are trying too introduce it?" If I was a pollie I would not be trying too make myself superfluous. I would ensure that my snout was firmly in the trough!

What a shambles a general election where everyone loses. The tories lose their majority, Labour lose the election, and the British people lose any chance of political stability or brexit being made a reality. I know which way my vote went and that candidate got elected. Yes the election did not go the way that Mrs May hoped but that is the way things go.
Labour tried to get elected in to power with the offer of free education until the student wants to stop, why not raise the age of compulsory education to 25 then you can claim that the teenage and young adult unemployment rate has dramatically dropped since you took power I'm sure that the sheep will be jumping for joy. They also had the threat of raising tax on individuals through taxing the size of your garden. Blamed everyone else for cuts to services but them selves under the guidance of Tony Blair and Gordon Brown who borrowed so much money that even sold the gold reserve's at a discount price and left the country in debt. Conservatives well the might as well have shot themselves in the foot with the threat to aged supporters with cut to winter fuel allowance which in some ways may not be a bad idea as I know quiet a lot of pensioners who reside in parts of the world with a cold winters night being plus 24 c and they gat the payment, they also threatened to do away with the triple lock for pensions. not a good move in my eyes as most pensioners still rely solely on the state pension for money. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

I read over here that for a lot of pensioners over there it's heat or eat! Then I read that many perish due too the cold. Your foreign aid is most generous, I just don't understand. T May wasn't very effective as Home Secretary so why did she get a gig as PM. Nigel talks sense why did not they take him onboard? They all seem too be playing a game without the best interest of all!

I doubt very much if they will be able to form a majority, I mean they've just spent the last 2 years calling JC a terrorist sympathiser and now they want to form a coilitian with the DUP....
After the shafting which happened last time and seats lost this time... I doubt the Liberals or the SNP will join them 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

As I see it, it’s not the DUP who are the real kingmakers and could keep the Conservatives in power, no, it’s the bad campaign that wee Nicola Sturgeon and Salmon organized, all the SNP kept banging on about was a second independence referendum and wanting somehow for Scotland to remain in the EU on their own.
The Scottish people it appears were having none of it and so in swathes voted conservative without those 12 seats todays results would be very different.
