Last time I met one with these symptoms the bearing was actually fine but the large central hub nut was loose! It was staked down, but was half a turn slack and nothing like torqued correctly. I never did find out who the moron who did it was.

If I remember right, Puma's went back to the 'proper' way of doing bearings, not these silly spacers in a TD5 (though the logic was understandable to an extent).

I can bring enough to have a look on Weds? I can even bring a complete bearing pack if need be :p ... Got a couple spare packs in me shed!

Wont take 10 mins ( Whistle ) to strip the hub off, give it a good grease up and do it back up!

I cant imagine LR are very generous with greasing them up in the Factory. But even so, 26k is a bit surprising! I would guess, like blackwolf mentioned, the lock nut has come undone (through a badly staked tab).

Pumas have the late TD5 arrangement - a spacer between the bearings, and a single stake nut done up rather tight.

There is however no reason why you can't ditch the spacer and revert to the earlier two nut and tab washer arrangement.

Well i managed to drive it here to the Plantworx stand. Its making horrible crunchy noises but I have little choice.

I have to get back to base (9miles) and then back here again in the morning. If you can bring a repair pack down I'd appreciate it!

Blackwolf, You are indeed correct. For some reason I thought Puma's went back to the locknut method. Just checked MicroCAT and thusly saw all the spacers.

Either way, the bearing races themselves should be the same size, so they'll do the job if its toast!

Just be ruddy careful later James!

If you're going to commit to a recovery anyway may as well open it up and have a look? Just the flange removal may tell you a lot... Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...
