Help, lights stopped working on a night time drive!
Mid way through a short drive earlier my lights decided to flash then die. The problem I have is:
when the light switch is all the way forward I get nothing at all, no low beam, no side lights and no main beam, but I can make the head lights flash by pulling the indictaor stalk towards me but can't turn them on by pushing it forward.
When the light switch is in the middle position I get side lights and very dim low beam, and again I can flash headlights with the stalk but if I push the indicator stalk forward everything goes off.
Any clue on what's gone wrong?

Main light switch has melted the plastic housing causing contacts to not connect. Cheap 10 min fix

Yup, time for a new light switch. You can prevent reoccurrence of this by fitting one of the relayed headlamp harnesses, eliminating the high current flow through the switch.

What I did was temporarily swapped the connectors around so the sidelight position powered the headlights. Gets you home safe. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Just had this happen to me. The advice on here was superb! I checked the bulbs and fuses, replaced the switch, bridged the dim/dip relay but in the end it turned out to be a burnt relay.
