Bodywork - Rear bench seat panel corrosion
Hi guys,
I want to fix this corrosion in the back of my LR. It's quite bad!
Is there anything complicated about it, can I just take it to a bodyshop & ask them to weld a new (aluminium?) panel back in?

It is caused by the reaction between the aluminium body and the steel seat belt mounts.

My suggestion would be to unbolt and remove the seat belt mounts, cut out the corroded aluminium and rivet a new piece of aluminium before refitting the seat belt mounts. The seat belt mounts will need rubbed down and painted. It best to isolate from the new aluminium with some thin plastic or rubber matting.

YRM solutions will probably do a repair piece.

It is a reasonable but time consuming job to do on the drive but you may find more corrosion once you start taking it apart so make sure you can do with out the vehicle for a few days especially if you need to order parts as you go along.

Mine rotted through in a similar place on both arches, cut the bad out, took back to bare ali, and etched primed and painted both sides. Then I bonded new ali in the holes that I cut with new ali sandwiched eitherside, I then riveted them in place (have a look at my build thread - page 3 - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50187-30.html as I put a few pics up).
Hope that helps 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0
