Hi,
I've just discovered that my high level door window brake light was defective. After chasing the fault I found that the 12V switched brake supply to the lamp's 1/4" connection post bonded to the window glass wire track is open circuit. In the short time I've run an fresh wire to the bottom connector of the glass but ideally I'd like to get it fixed. How can these bonded connections to glass electrical tracks be repaired? I tried cleaning and soldering - no can do... Zera If it ain't broke don't fix it! |

You could try this conductive paint from Maplins
http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/electrically-con...aint-n36ba Or a similar product from Halfodrs http://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-bo...ter-repair The other product you could use to stick the connector back is a Silver Coated/Nickel Filled, Electrically Conductive Adhesives such as those sold by Masterbond. Thanks for the ideas, The terminal is still fully bonded to the tracked glass conductor but not making an electrical connection, I don't want to separate the track from the glass trying to remove it to re-bond it. I'll have a look at the products and see if I can bridge the two (electrically) using some conductive adhesive. Zera If it ain't broke don't fix it! |

Apparently this is a common problem - mine has the same issue, but it arose at the MOT because it failed. Luckily the MOT wording is such that if you remove the bulb and fitting then it isn't considered a high level brake light, and hence can't be tested. This is what I did at the time.
With the unreliability of standard defender bulb holders, it seems the high level one suffers similar unreliability but for a different reason. I must get it fixed properly when the opportunity arises, and those suggestions are a good place to start. |

When mine stopped working, tried to solder the connection which wasn't satisfactory. In the end the easiest way to rectify was to get the whole glass unit replaced on the insurance. You only need to pay the excess for glass replacement.
