Defender drivers inner wing, what's this piece of electronic

After I took off the outer wing I noticed this piece of electronics, what is it, and what does it do?

2004 Defender 90 Td5 X-Tech LE Zambezi Silver

Yes, as above - it's the resistor used to drop the voltage to the dipped beam headlights for the dim/dip function, a sort of crude version of daytime running lights, I think most "Defenderists" have disconnected them by now.

Thanks guys, I have not had the defender long and never had the lights on in the dark so didnt notice if there was a dipped running light, I am intending to replace the beams with LED's
